The key for both guys is they skate well, play a ‘stiff’ game and can effectively use both skating and passing to alleviate pressure. It makes a lot of difference
I guess all everyone has to ask themselves.......can you recall ONE instance where Trouba skated the puck out of the defensive zone and through the neutral zone and then creating a good zone entry?

We are so use to non-physical defensemen that Will Borgen has become the one-eyed man in the land of the blind.
Think back to not to long ago when Brendan Smith was the d-man that we were all gushing over. He was given a 4 year deal that aged like tuna fish left out in the Summer sun.
Sell, Sell, Sell

Borgen really hasn't done anything to compare him to Smith. For some reason on this board Kakko is a stud for going on a heater and we misused him and there's no way Seattle misused Borgen. Why are our players always great when we trade them according to this board but the players we get back are flashes in the pan?

By Trouba you mean Miller when they were on the same pair? Otherwise, no recollection of such event

fun to watch the team win.

not fun to remain inexplicably banned from the main thread because a mod has a personal grievance against with me. a real bummer, in fact. ive had good rapport with plenty of posters. ive donated when a board member was down on their luck.

@Machinehead, it's been 2 days. why don't you apologize for losing your shit, delete your absurd comments, unban me, and we'll move on.

Its nice that he's in the right places at the right time sometimes, definiltey more involved in the game than Kreider, a definitely improvement, but the guy cannot make a single play. Always either whiffing, fumbling, or making the wrong decision. The bar is so low for him with you.

They both need to go.

It's been a small sample size but Kaliyev has really fit in well. He isn't a burner but he isn't a bad skater like we all saw in the past with someone like Frolov or even Stepan at times. He keeps up. He is in good position and can make small skill plays to move the puck effectively. I have liked what I have seen so far. That and he doesn't waste a lot of time when he has the puck in or near a scoring area, he just shoots it.

pretty sure he has some end to end goal even with the Rangers in the past few years but yeah he struggled with that!

Miller did that several times in my memory, usually when he decided to skate it out he was successful, even at getting through the neutral zone and into the offensive zone. His problems usually happened when it came to pinching at the wrong time or trying to make passes he shouldn't be making. Skating and carrying the puck has never been an issue for him.

He’s been a nice surprise. He’s far more willing to battle and he’s got good awareness defensively than his reputation made it seem.

no mo like button fer chris. im a very very bad person-the worst. evrybody thinks that.
i deserve to punished.
lets go arthur kalievskoye

I would contend that regular season record isnt important and just making the playoffs is what matters. As an example look at 2023 where the Bruins had 135 points best record in nhl history and were eliminated 1st round of playoffs much to their fans dismay. And that same year the Panthers with a mere 92 points, entering the post season via the wild card were able to make it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals.

Though they lost to the Golden Knights, the next year they won it all.

I love this team we have now, though agree Mika, Kreider and Lindgren are the weak links in the chain. We still have a lot of great offensive pieces and critically (unlike last year and earlier this year) we have a defensive line up that really works. Might not be high $ all stars but it works. plus our superstar Igor has been on a streak of his own. I love Vaak, Borgen, Rempe, Edstrom and Carrick as new full time additions to the lineup and we're demonstrating just how good we are. Lets hope our mojo keeps rising and the good vibes continue.
Better regular season gets you an easier early round which can help.

The Rangers played good enough to say they won the game but simultaneously Sens inexplicably did not show it at all so I'd take stats from that game I guess as NOT representative of performance against serious opponent whether it's Zibanejad and his linemates or anyone else.

The above have nothing to do with your other discussion.

But if the Rangers were the no show and lost 0-5 I'm sure it would be proof how far away the Rangers are.

Is he whiffing on shots and making the wrong decision on some plays? Yes, but that can be said about everyone on the team multiple times every game. However, the stats dont lie. Look at his stats over the last month. He is a top performer on the team.

Am I happy over his positive trajectory? Yes! Do I expect more from? Also yes.

Or, the Rangers played so well that they neutralized the Senators.

And to your comment about serious opponents. What about the games against Caps, Stars, Knights and Avs?
He was a top performer against all of them.
