Ok I constantly hear the WWE and people from them refer to Shawn Michaels as the best in ring performer of all time as if it is no debate and while I agree he's in the discussion I feel there are some others who deserve to be in the discussion

So to start I have made a list for this poll
If your guy isn't on the list select other and state your case

Define mordern era.

Because I think of the last few years as the modern era.

80s, 90s, and 2000s are all different eras to me.

I think of modern era as 1983-present. But even that is split between the period from 1983 to 2000 and then the WWE-Monopoly era.

I don't agree with HBK being the best in-ring performer of all time. He's pulled too many stunts in-ring to warrant that distinction, imo. I'll take Bret Hart, Kurt Angle, Daniel Bryan, and CM Punk any day of the week over HBK.

Hard to decide overall, but by decade it's oddly clear cut for me:

80s: Flair
90s: Hart
2000s: Angle
2010s: Bryan

Michaels comfortably for me. The amazing thing is how many guys had arguably their best match with Michaels. I doubt that anyone else comes close to him in that regard.

Flair.

Guys who had their best match vs Flair off the top of my head: Sting, Luger, Barry Windham, Ron Garvin, Kerry Von Erich, Steamboat, Vader, Bobby Eaton (as a single), Rick Martel...

I voted Angle because I'm a mark.

Some of my favorite matches featured him and I just prefer his style of wrestling over HBK for example.

Bret Hart would come close in that regard I would imagine.

It always between Hart and Michaels for me. Michaels has pulled a couple stunts in the ring but they were during his 'troubled' phase. I have to give the nod to him though as he came back and showed that he could still do it. His longevity gets him my vote.

i really think the case can be made for Kurt Angle, but I think because he was in TNA for so long he hasn't gotten as much exposure he could put on an entertaining match with anybody

Flair is the only other guy in that conversation. I disagree about Vader though.

Bret Hart would come close in that regard I would imagine.

Not sure about that. He has Bulldog, Mr. Perfect, Piper and Owen at least. Hart is in the conversation at least for best ever though.

Flair is definitely up there.
I think most people would be surprised by the number of 5-stars matches he has in his career.
Shawn Michaels...
As brilliant as he is...
Only has had 2 in his career...
While Flair has triple of that.
