Great photos in hockey history you've just seen for the first time (Part III)

This is a story many people already know.

On February 02, 1954, the Detroit Red Wings played their first ever outdoor game. It was at the Marquette State Prison (“the Alcatraz of the North”) against a team of inmates, the “Pirates.”

You can learn more about the game via a simple google search. Fascinating episode in the history of the Red Wings and the American penal system.

There was a trophy — the Doniker Trophy, also known as the Honey Pot — which some folks might reasonably surmise had a distinct purpose before morphing into a one-time sports trophy.

This is a picture of it.

Below are actors Françoise Dorléac and Michael Caine in Helsinki, Finland in February 1967, filming the Ken Russell movie Billion Dollar Brain, an espionage film with a, yeah you guessed it, Cold War backdrop. The team present in the photo is Rosenlewin Urheilijat-38 whose players performed a hockey fight in the film against players from another Finnish team named Karhu-Kissat.

Dorléac was an older sister of famous French actress Catherine Deneuve, but died 4 months later (in June 1967) in a car accident, aged 25.

The photo actually have members of both teams. The young man behind Caines shoulder is Hexi Riihiranta who then played in Karhu-Kissat (Bearcats) and later was few season in WHA with Winnipeg Jets.
