Great stuff! Any color pics of those first-year Penguins threads are always a treat. To get an idea of how goaltending has changed to bigger players and equipment, Alan Bester looks like a teenaged kid in this pic from Robert Gordon Orr's post above!!!

The Stars shutout the Knights last night but in Game 1 of the season I recall how Neal had scored 2 goals in a Vegas victory and how pissed off Seguin was after this Neal hit midway through the 1st period. But I hadn't seen the still photograph of the hit until today:

April 4, 1976 - California Golden Seals final game in the NHL. The Seals hosted the Los Angeles Kings and won the game 5-2 before a crowd of 6,442 at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena.

WOW! The players look like cardboard cutouts...

Rare color pictures of Cleveland Barons at home

1977/78 - Mike Crombeen (14) and Walt McKechnie (8) in action against Philadelphia

SWEET!!!! You got more? Or a website link where you got 'em?

Pictures like that showing how players look like ones from the past or movie or TV stars really show that even though they certainly have been a fact of life (like it or not) with the game for many years, but still that the buckets and shields really detracted from the game in terms of fan/player recognition and identification.
Vincent Lecavalier looks so much like Jean Béliveau. I wish we had seen Vinnie in a Habs' jersey...

First time I see this picture. Three legends after a 3rd playooff loss with Modo and facing elimination. Not a happy group.

Not the Cleveland Barons in white that SealsFan would like to see but here are some old coloured photos from an Ohio team wearing white at home:
Columbus Checkers of the IHL "the first professional hockey team in Columbus"
Columbus Checkers Hockey Team photographs :: Ohio History Connection Selections

Oh ya, the old Checkers.... 1966/70.... played out of the Ohio Expo Fairgrounds Coliseum.... 1st ever pro game was an exhibition match between the Checkers & Chicago Black Hawks however both Stan Mikita & Bobby Hull threatened not to play as the ice conditions were pretty bad.... They did eventually suit up however, "retired" after the 1st period as despite the arenas best efforts the ice had deteriorated significantly after the first 20 minutes....

Note in those pictures all the empty seats... losing, lack of attendance eventually spelling the end of the Checkers in Columbus. Moe Mantha Sr. a long time minor pro Defenceman the teams Playing-Coach in its last year, 69/70..... his son going on to play over 650 games in the NHL & like his Dad, a Defenceman... Moe Jr. with Winnipeg, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Edmonton & Philadelphia from 1980/92.
