Post-Game Talk: Great effort in shootout loss to Dallas!

3 out of 4 points against Washington & Dallas on a back-to-back is freaking amazing. The team has played a murderer's row of contenders since the Xmas break and are 6-0-1 in those games (TB, Florida, Vegas, Colorado, Washington & Dallas). It's been well earned, fun, fast hockey, too.

Team looked tired in 3rd period, but they played a hardworking, physical game. I loved to see it.

I only hope we didn't soften up Dallas for Ottawa. Hits were 30-8 Montreal. Sens get DeSmith. We got Oettinger.

Montembeault was excellent.

Great game, great point.

Now we can relax and get some rest… oh wait, nope, we hop on a plane to goddamn southwestern USA and travel down there for a week. Great.

They'll have tomorrow off probably leave for Utah tomorrow night. We play Dallas again this week. At least it won't be on a back-to-back. It is Dallas's 1st home game after this 5 game road trip is up.

A tad too much focus on possession in OT , just try something of the rush and retreat as fast as possible if it fails. If the other team misses you will most likely get another odd man rush.
NHL coaches have overcoached OT and taught the guys how to make it as boring as possible. Circle back and look for an opening (that's usually never there) + repeat until you lose the puck.

I'm with you. If your goalie makes a save in OT on an odd-man rush, you get one coming back. That's how it used to be when it was first introduced.

Easy for me to say as a fan though.

7 hits for Slaf tonight and some good plays. Starting to look more like last season.
He showed some nice passing skills yesterday and some very nice hits tonight.
I just wished he was more of a scoring threat. He doesn't get enough sog and scoring chances right now for a guy playing on the 1st line.

The fall from the sky just isn't coming. Is this team really going to get a playoffs spot ?

Oettinger is a good goalie. Combine that with the Stars' stellar defensive play (they always seemed to be in the way of passes and have insanely good stick work). If it hadn't been for those two dumb penalties they took, we woulda gotten shut out 1-0.

I don't think the Habs presented a single high danger shot to Oettinger. They played really well all things considered.

Glad that we don't have to play against those guys often. Eesh.

Aso why does it feel like Benn never ages? I feel like he's been with the stars for over 20 years now.

Edit: for OT I think they are looking for looking at making som changes right? I'd like them to implement a move forward rule. As in you can play the put back as you cross lines. There's too much keep away crap happening.

Dvorak was on to take the faceoffs. Being Montreal’s best faceoff centre and OT about keeping the puck it was the right call by MSL. The one faceoff he won he got off the ice right away for Caufield.

Looking at his ice time, he had 2 shifts and a total of 23 seconds in OT.
I know it's a faceoff thing but I still think he's a plug and shouldn't see the ice in a 3v3 OT scenario.

55 fo% vs 50% and 49% for Evans and Suzuki. The difference isn't significant enough to justify playing him when he serves no other purpose, just play your best players.

This team is playing the right way. They really have taken a big step. I feel like the lack of offense from the 2nd and third line will eventually catch up with them though.
Indeed. They need better than Newhook on the second line. And it’s been a while since the Dvorak line scored.

Didn’t Anderson score Friday? I know it was short handed but he still represents the 3rd line, no?

I too am fine with the result tonight….hoping for the W but it did appear our boys understandably tired a bit at the end and as somebody mentioned, we hit a goalpost in the OT so that was some tough luck. Didn’t really threaten in the shoot out….oh well……take a well deserved break fellows.

A very gutsy effort considering two games in two nights. Monty was solid and we got a point. I am proud of them.
The team got sloppy immediately after scoring on that 5v3. I thought Marty should have gone to PP2 on the ensuing face off given the fatigue factor. We lost momentum giving pucks away on the back half of that PP. But yeah when you are tired the board wins aren't as clean the puck bounces weird shots get blocked we had the upper hand for a lot of that second period but just couldn't get off very good shots 5v5. Credit to Dallas they are a pain in the ass bunch to play against.
