Right, and we are talking about a 65 points collegiate athlete who just won and NCAA championship and was a hobey baker finalist. These guys aren't in a rush to sign with teams right now.

Pretty big difference between a player signing a minor league contract with the team that drafted him and a player flat out refusing to sign with the team that drafted him. Other than signing an ELC on time Gravel has made every indication that he wants to be a part of the Kings, Hayes on the other hand has made it clear he wants nothing to do with the Hawks.

Until he signs anywhere hard to say that. Though I think use of the word 'fear' is overblowing things as well.

From this very thread

Post #51: “Even with a Manchester contract he becomes UFA on August 15th. Then if only signed to Manchester he could be signed by any other team at any time next year, though I really doubt he'd make it to August 17th as UFA if the Kings fail to sign him.â€

Post #60: “I fear we are going to lose Gravelâ€

Post #71: “I don't think that's end of story. He is an NHL UFA on August 15th (Manchester contract doesn't matter). Hard to believe no team will give him an offer then.â€

Post #93 “Money is a huge factor for the majority of people, the chances 23 year old Gravel is going to just toss aside hundreds of thausands of dollars just so he can stay within an organization thats he officially been a part of for all of a few months is even less likely than me getting to motorboat Katy Perry.â€

Good luck with Katy Perry.

All you doom and gloom guys
If he was planning/hoping for a NHL deal, why did he sign an AHL one. He could have waited and if nothing was offered he could sign an AHL deal with any team.
This is good news, but as long time Kings fans, we jump to the worst outcome.

Good luck with Katy Perry.

The point of this was what? That others say stuff just as off base and I would like to motorboat Katy Perry? I don't think either needed proving.

FYI, nothing that has happened since August 15 makes my post invalid about him tossing away thousands either. Keep on playing though.

Just imagined if you took a boat ride from Aug 15 until now. Wow.

I agree. I think he stays with the Kings. The fact he signed with Monarchs indicates that he isn't your typical college free agent. Not to say he won't sign somewhere else. But, it indicates he wants to be a LA King.

And we want guys on the team who are committed to the process and culture. I think it speaks to the type of character guys we have. Lombardi is a very honest, straight up guy with the players and everyone knows what their role is.

I hope he realizes he will have to pay his dues before he makes it to the NHL and doesn't think by signing elsewhere his chances will be any easier.

His thinking might be that paying his dues in the Kings org will in the end make him a better defenseman who can stick in the NHL.

Yep. I wonder if a part of this situation is Lombardi pointing out to him the logjam at D the Kings/Monarchs have right now and his AHL deal is a way for him to make more money than he would be playing on a ELC in the AHL/ECHL. But I think both those leagues have caps on salary and what not so this is strictly me pondering out loud whether that might be the case.

Article confirms that Gravel will play in Manchester. Rosen also says since Gravel is signed to a deal with the Monachs, no NHL team can sign Gravel unless they ask the Kings for permission.

This doesn't make sense to me. Is it an unwritten rule type thing where it's "frowned upon" for other GMs to do this or is it an actual rule? I'm under the impression the Kings do not hold Gravel's rights at the moment.
