As long as Grier doesn't trade those picks away for more forward help. Right now the D for next year is Ferraro (1 year), Walman (1 year), Vlasic (1 year), Liljigren (1 year) and Thrun (1 year). None of them signed for beyond 2025.
Other than Vlasic and Thrun, I expect all those guys to be on other teams by next March

Same. I’m not even sure Thrun is back next year even though he’s signed. It wouldn’t be a bad idea, we can all agree, to bring in more than just one year projects at this point.

The tricky part about dealing with the defense going forward is most of our young guys are not very well cooked. I could see Mukhamadullin taking a spot if and when Ferraro is moved, but even though I expect Cagnoni to get a few games at the end of this year, realistically I think he probably needs another year in the AHL at least. I really do expect we're gonna be looking for a veteran LHD to push Walman and whoever else remains down a peg in the offseason.

Agreed although I honestly think Walman may be the first (next) d-man moved simply because he’s playing way above his head (or was prior to injury) and Grier seems somewhat reluctant to trade Mario.

Woof, I usually like Shayna, but saying Granlund is a good asset on the PP because he can tip/deflect pucks is so wildly off the mark. He's been playing the point/half boards and is most often the dude shooting the puck for a tip. Has he even had a single tip goal this year??

They gave us A's and Dallas C+/B-, which feels right.

ESPN gave us an A+ and Dallas an A- but frankly grading trades like these are pointless until the year is over. If Dallas wins a cup then anything less than an A+ is undue.

Anybody want Kunin, Walman, Toffoli, Rutta and Farraro? They are available for trade. We'll also throw in young Guschin, Robins and Bordeleau to sweeten up the pot.
Not Walman or Toffoli, we are already at the bottom and now without Cici and Granny. Lets not be scorched earth bad.

Great deal getting a 1st and a 4th out of Granlund and Ceci. I still can root for Dallas as I’d rather have the higher 1st.

Precisely. For the Sharks the grade is whatever it is...an A, A-, whatever. For Dallas, the trade depends on the outcome of their season.

Assuming that McKenna is available in 2026 and DuPoint in 2027...look, I'll take them, but you kind of hope that the Sharks are no longer in the basement next season. It'd be year 3 of the rebuild (generously); have to start showing signs of life.
I agree that’s the hope but it’s not the end of the world if it doesn’t happen. Colorado finished with 48 points in year 4 of their Mack and that wound up being how they got their final piece. There’s no one perfect formula to rebuild.

You’d be rooting against Dallas if that’s what you want.

I meant to say against them or root for them to lose but I spaced out lol

It's going to be really interesting at the draft to see how high of a pick Grier could extract if he offers up the Dallas first and our own second--and if, at this point, that might be worth it considering the good depth in our system. Sort of a Dickinson 2.0 situation.

And it's funny, in terms of which prospects to pay attention to, how you never know; I was convinced last year that even if Grier traded up (like he did) that there was no way someone like Dickinson would fall out of the top 10, so who knows who might drop this year into the teens if we're able to get a pick in that range.

Oh we will be awful next year too.
