Prospect Info: Grand Rapids Griffins Discussion

I’d add one forward and one defenseman and then cull the dead weight and let kids play. So one of Bennett or Ehlers ideally and then Provorov on D.
Dump Gustafsson, Compher, Holl. Either dump Tarasenko or hope for a bounce back season from him.

Danielson-Larkin-Raymond
Debrincat-Kasper-Bennett
Lombardi-Copp-Tarasenko
Soderblom-Ras-Mazur
Motte

Provorov-Seider
Edvinsson-ASP
Chiarot-Johansson
Wallinder

What has Wallinder shown to get a spot?

4/13 Griffins vs Stars

They just didn't sustain any good zone pressure in this game. Cossa played well but got no goal support

My 3 stars:
1) Cossa
2) Sebastian
3) #33

Lines:

Snively - Danielson - Gettinger
Dries - Lombardi - Shine
Finnie - Becher - Doucet
Bantle - Seger - Johannes

Wallinder - Johansson
Buium - Knyzhov
Viro - Tuomisto

Cossa

Danielson: B
• Great defensively, his line did nothing offensively all night. Feel like they were forced to play dump and chase, grindy hockey for the majority of the game

Cossa: A
• Tracking the puck well, and rebound control very good

HUGE cross-crease pad save on Hryckowian to keep the game only at 1-0

1st goal- he had just made a big toe save stretching out but Texas maintained pressure and then a tipped point shot gets by him

2nd goal- Lind goes glove side on the breakaway

Lombardi: B+
• 2 on 1 chance on a 4 on 4, stopped. Later that shift he was literally dancing around Stars and almost took it straight to the net but the goalie poked it away it looked like

Wallinder: C+
• Couldn't clear on the PK when he time to shoot it off the boards, instead attempts up the middle the blueline Star player stops it. Continued zone pressure

Rush defending good

Buium: B
• Thought he was battling hard in front of his net and hustling there when he sensed danger

2nd ENG he got beat in the footrace to the puck by Blumel

Tuomisto: B+
• Good behind his net getting the puck away from danger

Steady gap control and shutting down play at his blueline

Becher: C+
• Nothing to report aside from him finishing a few checks on the boards. Quiet game

Johansson: B+
• 4 on 4, Hryckowian tries to dangle Johansson and he just shuts it right down with the stick, then controls and moves the puck to his partner. Attack neutralized perfectly. Then Wallinder gives him the puck back and AnJo enters the zone, cuts back and creates space, passes to Dries. Eventually Lombardi ends up with that great individual effort chance

His OZ pinches were well-timed. Nice hands at the blueline

Real solid in his zone moving the puck away from pressure. Few times though, he was trying to force a short chip up the boards when he had time to button hook and retreat back

Great puck movement up ice. He was also jumping into the play too at opportune times

Had a giveaway in a 4 on 4 as his short pass got picked off but it wasn't a terribly dangerous chance against and Cossa swallowed it up

Stars goal #2 he was the last man back as Wallinder jumped into the play to make it a 4 on 3, Griffs lose it, and AnJo fails to cover middle ice and pick up Lind who takes the stretch pass and scores on the breakaway

Finnie: A-
• ASSIST - takes the pass from Seger off the boards in the NZ, enters OZ, freezes defender and goes between the legs to the outside right wing, drives inside to the net and gets a little disrupted shot off but Seger cleans up the rebound for the goal

Keeps his feet moving well behind the OZ net when he's with and without the puck and under pressure

Finnie is going to be another dog of a player like kasper in my opinion. Not saying he will be as good, but I just see another Swiss Army knife type of guy who will be very integral to the core of the team. Maybe I’ll be wrong but I love what I see from him. I think he will be a very good 4c or 3c type of player in the NHL eventually.

I was really impressed seeing him live last week. He stood out and like you said I can definitely see him as a bottom 6 C.

Kasper, Danielson, and Finnie are all super well rounded and responsible centers. Powerplay, penalty kill, slot in on the wing, stick at center, shut other teams top players down. They may not be the flashy high octane offensive guys that a lot of fans want, but they are all the type of player you win with. Neither Ryan O'Rielly or Ryan Kesler ever had a ppg season, but they were extremely effective players during their peak seasons who any team in the NHL would have loved to have. Even Patrice Bergeron only had one ppg season, and he was one of the most effective centers in the NHL for a while. In not saying any of these guys need to or will be perennial selke contenders, but I do think in a few years the Wings will be an absolute pain in the ass to play against at minimum. Looking at the realistic possibility of having Larkin, Kasper, Danielson, and Finnie slotted in at C makes Yzerman look like he knew what he was doing all along.

I think we just really need another top-end scorer to cement the core. I'm praying/hoping Buchelnikov can be that guy, but if not then trades and UFA might be the way to grab one. Having Kasper/Danielson/MBN be the 2way hard hitting guys that can shut people down, and then Raymond/another top end guy (Buchelnikov? Marner? Kyle Connor?) on the wing is one reasonable way to build a contender. Kind of how Dallas and Carolina are built, and how Boston was for many years.

I definitely agree, it would be huge if Buch could be that guy. Lombardi has also been unbelievable for the Griffins, the best player on the ice many nights. One of those players you notice every single shift he gets. I think people are sleeping on his ceiling but will come around eventually. If one of those two can end up being a top line wing that would be huge for the rebuild.

I’m hoping he surpasses everyone’s expectations and beyond and can be another gem pick we find in later rounds. We’re way past due to start nailing some of these picks

I’ll be happy if he just makes the nhl but I have a really good feeling about him. He led his awful whl team back to back seasons by quite a margin and one as an 18 yr old and he’s just starting off his ahl career and he’s off to a good start

I’ll be happy if he’s a 3rd liner and I’ll set myself up for dissapointment but I’m hoping for more with him

Might have to do without mbn cause according to that ham brad on winged wheel (no idea why I listened to that crap ) he said it would take nygaard to get Isaac Howard ... ya ok 😂

He also said he wouldn’t give k’andre miller an offer sheet cause he wouldn’t send a first ... as if the rangers would be willing to entertain the thought of moving him at this point for anything but a 1st

I think Yzerman won’t sign anyone longterm this season and make a move for someone with 1-2 yrs left . Probably take a look at Kyle Connor next summer if he wants to come back home

So what's this roster potentially looking like next season???

How many vets would we be bringing back/on this team??? I'd say this could be stacked with kids next season

Hamas has to be booted right? Assuming danielson, lombardi and mazur or at least 2 of 3 make the wings

Upfront

Finnie becher nygaard doucet

Tralmaks rychlovksy

Vets - dries shine

Knowing yzerman probably lombardi will be back to start.

Are we letting red savage become a free agent or bringing him on??

I know it wont happen but I'd rather move like a rychlovksy and doucet and even though his chances are slim of making it I'd bring up niederbach to grand Rapids after finishing tied for scoring on his awful roster and potentially Liam dower nilsson

I dont think any of the 4 have a shot of being impact ehlers but I'd rather give the kids we drafted a look especially niederbach over 2 23 yr olds kids who have been meh

Back end

Guessing this is the end or viro

Buium truscott johansson

Does 1 of tuomisto , wallinder return?? Both? Asp?

Anyways I'd like to see hanas, and a few younger guys crossed off for newer crop

MBN - Lombardi - Watson
Snively(?) - Dries - Shine
Finnie - Becher - Kiiskinen(?)
Doucet - Tralmaks - Bantle
Seger(?) - Savage(?) - Johannes(?)
Rychlovsky

I think Lombardi starts in GR but finishes next season in Detroit. Kiiskinen might stay in Europe for 1 more year. I think they want to keep Snively or find similar player to replace him. Savage might have better chance somewhere else, but maybe he signs or they want to sign him. Seger & Johannes seem interesting late bloomers, i can see them back. Rychlovsky is log jam victim, most likely goes back to Czechia if he stays in ECHL.

Lagesson(?) - ASP
Wallinder - Tuomisto
Buium - Didier(?)
Truscott - AnJo

They might re-sign Lagesson, let him mentor ASP. I believe Tuomisto will re-sign and Didier is the captain, so i wouldn't write him off just yet. Allthough they could replace him with Holl, if they get lucky at the frenzy.

Cossa
Holm(?)
Gyrlander

I'd try to deal for Connor

Why in the world do we want ASP mentored by a career AHLer.

He needs to be in the NHL.

They have a life outside the hockey rink. Lagesson has lived in North America since 2014(1 season in Europe) and ASP probably still lives at home with mom and dad. It's really is basic stuff, kid lives with a veteran for a year. Shows the ropes, how the life works outside Skellefteå.

And ASP starts in GR, it's a standart procedure in Detroit.

Ya dont see kiiskinen up so quick, could be wrong. I could see Watson in detroit as the 13-14 guy??

I thought savage playing in Michigan would of signed with us by now and be in gr doesn't look like it

I think anton j. Is in top 3 pairs on d ... I'd like to see bednar up , didn't he have better numbers in toledo than gylander ??

Anyways ya I think a few or the younger guys need to be replaced with other younger players
