i've never seen it brought up but honestly I think Horcoff deserves a bit of heat for the state of the Griffins these last couple years

the vet acquisitions have been pretty uninspiring since he took over as GM

Yeah. This is my gut feeling too.

Horcoff was in the organization before Yzerman came back, and I'll predict he is gone on the next wave to suffle the organization.

Don't really agree with this, Horcoff is well thought of in front offices. We actually won out over a few options when initially hiring him. Yzerman also has promoted him since coming back. I think Horcoff needs to a better job with veteran signings in GR, that isn't get you fired stuff right now though in my opinion. I also was never a big Ryan Martin fan, I know the Wings front office was and he is well thought of in New York so I am not sure when you hold these duel roles if the organization values the NHL side of the business more than the AHL GM role while serving in a duel capacity.

I think he's wife was most likely the decisive factor, Cindy Horcoff is a Michigan native and i believe both of them went to Michigan State University. Anyway they lived in Edmonton, Dallas and Anaheim when Shawn was playing but when he retired, i would say that the wife said "now we go home".

I remember Horcoff spending his off-seasons in Michigan and that there was trade rumours because of it. So after all maybe Detroit was really the only option.

But i don't believe that Horcoff is in the hot seat and his resume is quite good. Lenghty hockey career and BA in finance and mathematics. On the surface sounds like a guy many would like to hire.

And this season is Horcoff's 2nd full season as a GM and as a assistant GM. If Yzerman ain't happy in the future, i don't believe that Horcoff is getting fired. They just change his role, like they did with Fischer.

Grand Rapids aside do we even know what specifically Horcoff does on a day to day basis in his Assistant GM role?

makes it tough to even get a read on positions like that as a fan to be honest, can't say one way or another if he's doing a good job or not when we don't know what he even does

Kasper has been good lately. Seems to be adjusting well.

Would Antii Tuomisto be described as a physical defenseman? He seems to be contributing offensively lately. It seems to me we have three young guys down there that need at least a cup of coffee in Detroit in him, Johansson, and Ed, who simply needs a promotion

we have a glut of defensemen in the system right now. Obviously they won't all make it, but at some point Yzerman is going to need to make some moves.

Steve isn’t going to trade anyone at the deadline just to make room for someone in GR. It might affect lockeroom chemistry if we are doing well. Trades will most likely come after the season

No. Tuomisto has been just big-sized defensive defenceman, with some PP skills. Huge shot.

Never anything physical, maybe he can develop it.

How can 23 teams compete in only 4 rounds of playoffs?
They can't, that's why they made it 5 rounds ;) Looks like 9 teams get a bye for the first round, while the other 14 play each other and whittle each other down to 7. So then you've got 16 for the 2nd round.

Seems excessive, but being a league full of prospects (some might call it a development league), I guess it provides good experience for more kids this way.

Not a banger, but competent defensively and someone who will engage physically. I personally think he is a pretty underrated passer and mover of the puck. Stylistically he is just different from the Swedish defensemen in GR who have the ability to get up in transition and transport the puck a bit more.

Is Tuomisto's skating improved?

From what I watched this year it's passable in the AHL. I don't think it's any worse than Holl's skating, TBH. Not a real strength but he's not a total pylon. Still not liking his pivots in the limited viewings I've had.

Holl is by no means a great skater, but he's better than "passable at the AHL level." I'd say he's closer to "passable at the NHL level" lol.

Cossa's save percentage is all over the place. I guess that is common for goalies but he's been anywhere from 78.6% to 97.2% with lots of 86-88% nights. It's an improvement over last year and he's gotten 18 starts, so that's clear progress.
Your numbers downplay him though. Hes had lots of nights much better than 86-88 or his save percentage wouldnt be above .900.

All goalies numbers fluctuate like that though, its why they take the average
