Prospect Info: Grand Rapids Griffins, 2024 - 2025 Season

Pretty eventful for a zero scoring game. Monsters had quite a few golden chances especially a 2 on 0 in OT. Husso standing tall

Danielson: A-
• Another real solid game. Setup Snively for a couple grade-A chances but the goalie had his number. He was firing the puck more tonight hopefully getting over that hump. Boy he could use a goal right about now. Defensively I cannot emphasize enough how good he is in that he turns plays the other way just by being so cerebral in support of the puck and how he anticipates play. Also killed off the remaining 10 secs of the 2nd in his zone solely on his own by overwhelming and forcing the Monsters player forcing him on the outside where he had zero chance of a look at the net

Wallinder: B-
• Okay passing and moving the puck. Defending at the net and along the boards he has consistency issues. He sometimes panicks just to move the puck and doesn't see that he has may have a bit more time than he thinks. He needs to engage physically more too... Use that size. Otherwise he's honestly just a 6'4 bambi. He skates too upright and needs better balance. He's fallen like 5-6 times this game.

With that being said, I liked his play in OT as he looked way more confident defending and moving the puck. I'd give his OT play an A- alone

Soderblom: B+
• Another good game playing to his strengths. He's a total menace in front of the net when he's there. He has the hands in tight space, he's impossible to move, and he's looking hungrier and hungrier for the puck. Using his reach and size to his advantage more

Buium: B
• Great puck poise and puck support. Joined the play a few times. Calm under pressure, reading the play well. I'm hoping next season he gets a PK role as he's been situated on the 3rd pair and the top 2 pairs play PK. I know that they're testing Wallinder in the PK role currently

Gawd I can’t wait to see what happens when we get healthy

It’s a really odd situation. I have no idea what’s going on. I think they’re showcasing Husso? That’s the only logical explanation
That’s good. He’s responding. We may have a goalie to trade

Yeah, it could be any of the goalies. If Talbot or Lyon gets traded, then Husso gets called up.

I think Lyon is probably the most desirable based on cap value. If it's Husso, then there may be a 3rd team involved which would decrease the return.

Good luck to the Griffs tonight. Just noticed Watson is their leading scorer. I wonder if anyone in Detroit has noticed.

I cannot figure out why Danielson has been wearing that fishbowl for the last month and a bit

Not a great start for Cossa. Two goals in six shots. Must be rusty

Tough start. 2-1 loss. Cossa recovered to stop 18 of 20. Geez can we please get Mazur and Lombardi back

Matt Murray (no, the other one) stood on his head all game... Only reason the game wasn't 5-2 Griffins...

Danielson: A
• Did just about everything you could ask of him and somehow could not buy a friggen point... 6 SOG. Early on the PK he took a chance to fly up the middle and got a stretch pass for a good shot up the right flank. Took all the opportunity he could getting into prime shooting spots on the PP and ES

He was getting selfish in all the right ways shooting he puck. Had a GOLDEN chance during period #2 in front all alone but got robbed by Murray. That was after a great solo effort dump and chase by Buium who took a hit to make a play.

Danielson was driving the net and high danger areas, and what do ya know? He got tonnes of good shots off but Murray was virtually unbeatable tonight...

Cossa: B
• Just needed to settle in. Probably wanted to have the first goal back, can't remember if he was screened or not. 2nd PP goal against, Rafferty lost position on his man and let him bang home the goal. Cossa looked good and back to form after that. Standing tall and tracked the puck really well. Made some difficult saves through traffic

Soderblom: B+
• Confident looking player these days with the puck on his stick, and using his size. I like his shot selection vs. looking to pass off for better scoring chances. Threw a big hit on the forecheck. Drew a penalty protecting the puck exiting his zone

He got absolutely robbed in front point blank going to his backhand in the 2nd

Buium: A-
• Great game and super noticeable offensively while being solid as usual defensively. Safe, accurate and effective plays under pressure and doesn't really get pushed around. Really pleased with his transition instincts and not just playing it 'safe' sitting back

One mistake resulted in a giveaway along the boards when he had an extra moment to make a safe play. Almost resulted in a slot chance for Milwaukee

Really good activation from the blueline keeping the play alive and doing so had some give-and-go's with Danielson and then Snively

Wallinder: C+
• An okay game. He gets rocked a lot when taking contact especially along the boards and he ends up on the ground way too much

One of the big issues I have with his IQ especially defensively, is that he often overskates his position... Like he glides around too fast and doesn't just pace himself with the play

Most confident when looking for a stretch pass and he has more ice to work with... Like it OT last game. But he also looks indecisive trying to make the 'safe' play when he sometimes doesn't need to

3-2 loss. Griffins were undisciplined tonight and frankly cost themselves because of it. I missed the last 10 mins of the game

Danielson: A-
• He finally got that thing off his mask! He fed Snively who ripped one that went off what looked like both posts. Honestly I could count a handful of times lately that Snively has been absolutely robbed off a feed from Danielson

Tonight breaking out he appeared to be stretching out the play up the ice and not being solely focused on being back there defensively in support of the puck, especially if he already has a 3rd man back. Was something I've been wanting from him and I hope to keep seeing that

Soderblom: A+
• Big snipe glove side from the right circle. That whole shift he was ready for something to happen, threw a hit just before that goal too. His assist was a good pickup along the boards, fed Buium for the goal that got tipped by Seger. Started the play by a cross-ice dump in and came out with the puck. Once again, real confident looking player tonight

Cossa: A
• Good 1st period and game overall. Made a couple big pad saves on back-to-back chances. 2nd goal on PP was a high tip. 3rd goal on PP was deflected off Rafferty in the slot. Can't ask much more from him, he seems to bounce back well after goals. Showed that to us in his one NHL game. Another good game the Griffins should have won for him

Wallinder: B+
• Honestly a more assertive game from him today. Sound puck management. Better reads to interrupt the play by quite a bit than of late. Joined the play when he saw fit. Was not coasting defensively nearly as much. There's parts of his decision making that I still don't like, but I'll give credit where credit is due tonight. It was a good game from #22

Buium: A
• Nice point shot that got tipped by Seger. Escaped pressure really good using deception with his edges. He always takes time to look too. Sneaky plays he makes. Walking the line on the PP1 with skill. It appears he's overtaken Wallinder there? His play lately is realgud. Pretty happy with him. I wanna see more shooting prowess eventually

Becher: F
• Was soft on his man in front for the first goal and Chibrikov got in to elevate the puck in close, top shelf short side. Then not long after, he lost an edge in front of his net all alone and coughed up the puck, Cossa went to poke it, and the Moose player bowled into Cossa

That was in the 1st period. I could be wrong, but I don't believe I saw him play after that? Thought I didn't see #41 out there once that happened. Would not be surprised if he got stapled to the bench solely on the fact he almost got his goalie hurt from a super sloppy play. Think of the fall Patrik Stefan did on that empty net vs Edmonton. Ya, it looked as bad as that
