Grahame named U.S. starter...

You have to go with the hot hand, and that's Grahame right now.

No matter who the starter is, you root for what's on the front, not the name on the back.

You don't think the U.S. can finish fifth or under ideal circumstances win bronze? I get it that Canada, the Czech Republic, and Sweden have the best chance paper to medal, but I fail to see how the U.S. is worse than Finland, Russia, or Slovakia.

:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

I was not Miller's biggest fan in prior years to this one but I get a lot of Sabre's games; almost all of them and from watching the kid he is the best American goalie in the league right now, esche need not say things about grahame because last time I checked JG was showing him up, and DePietro's big head will probably explode before the medal round begins.

Wow. I wonder how Esche is in the locker room, with Grahame starting.

DW is gutless. He and the rest of the braintrust have to cut the red tape and find a way to bring Miller in to start these games.

There are ways, but they are just to cowardly to do so. :madfire:

:biglaugh: I agree, Waddell should be a man and force Esche to fake an injury so he can go back on his original decision and sneak Miller onto the roster

I don't agree with the decision to start Grahame. In my opinion the US is overmatched in these Olympics and they need to start the goalie that gives them the best chance to steal some games. That goalie is Rick DiPietro. He's been playing very well as of late and has the potential to heat up and steal a game that Grahame does not have.

If the US was icing a stronger team I would support Grahame as the starter because he is the more consistent goalie--that's not even an arguement. But we are not going to win a medal this year unless the goalie can stand on his head and I think that DiPietro at his best is better than Grahame at his best.

Also, I disagree with the timing of the decision. DiPietro's been getting a lot of press as the US goalie and hardly anybody knows anything about Grahame. From a pure PR perspective this doesn't make sense for a team so concerned with "growing the game."

according to DiPietro's critics, wasn't his head supposed to explode a few yrs ago, when he was demoted and Osgood/Snow kept up :sarcasm:

Timing of the decision, or Esche's choice of revealing it? This wasn't an announcement by the team.

King Henry I don't really think Waddell cares about a pr perspective.Grahame's playing well and Waddell's going with the hot hand.If DiPietro wants to catch Waddell and Lavy's attention, then he needs to impress when given the chance in the preliminary round.

The US opens with 5 games in the first 7 days,so DiPietro should see some icetime.

Regardless of who I wanted or not wanted it appears Grahame is the guy and he has got my support now. Let's go USA!!!!!!!

agreed.I'd love to see the US win a medal.

:D

Was he even invited. Isnt Dipietro the backup and Esche the 2nd. backup! Grahame deserves it, but I would like to see Dipietro with a good defense in front of him.

Team USA just needs a good defense for that to happen.

I tend to agree with this. Ryan Miller has had a great year, but at this point is he playing any better than say John Grahame? No.

Um...better GAA, better Save %, and only two less wins in 11 less games.....

Ryan Miller is a top 5 goalie in the NHL right now, let alone in the USA.

Congrats to John G. He's played well lately and who knows? Anything can happen in single elimination tournies. He's been hot for weeks, so if he can carry it over, perhaps the rest of the room wreckers can give him some goal support.

Me too. Considering how the other team's are stocked, it'd be a Mini-Miracle to Medal, but I'd love to see it.

And I don't care who's in goal to get there. If it's Grahame, Esche, the Rick... just bring home the metallic neckware boys!

It's kind of sad that some people wouldn't continue to root for their country in the games because a favorite of theirs was excluded. Not saying it's anyone in this thread, just an observation, as I know there are those types out there.

If you don't want to root for your country because you like another team better, that's one thing. To discount them and put them down because of an exclusion is pretty disgusting.

I'm not a fan of quite a few players on the roster, but they're going to be over there giving it all for the US, and I'm going to gladly cheer on whoever it is doing so.

Well, Im a Sabres fan before Im an American, that's for sure. Between our increasingly ridiculous government, cutting of social welfare programs and complete disregard for international politics (except should it somehow benefit us), you better believe that Im for a few hockey players instead of the country that they represent. Just my opinion...as that ***** Ann Coulter would say: I am a bad American anyway, so what does it matter. Odd that ***** is censored, but not Ann Coulter. Hmm...

Since when did Miller become Patrick Roy? IMO all the goalies are unproven in pressure situations which is what they are going to be in. Having Miller in goal isn't going to assure the US a medal.

Go USA!!! And good luck to the other teams, unless they are playing USA! :-)

Right.......... I know you're pissed Miller isn't on the roster, but this is just stupid.

hey, for as much crap as the Buffalo-Betty fans have been spewing lately, he's spot on.

This years US team is possibly one of the worst international teams iced in quite a while.

His head does explode. Every time he lets in a bad goal or two, he takes himself out of it.

Waddell and Lavy must have missed the exploding head thing.Damn. :sarcasm:

Congrats to JG, he's worked really hard this year and I hope he can help the USA to medal! JG's used to being the underdog!

To Esche I say - karma's a b*tch baby!
