It was widely reported at the time that the final decision belonged to the player, so that's what I posted. Monahan apparently had insisted to play and since your post mentioned him as an example of staff responsibility, I thought he wasn't the best example.
I did say that in other instances their actions could have triggered responsibility and based on the decision taken to let go two prominent trainers, the Habs may have found enough evidence to this effect.
I have no idea how Macchabée is involved in this at all, I don't recall what she said or what she changed but whatever it was, she did not have the power to change whatever the accepted medical protocol was or is league-wide. My understanding is that there are situations where a player has final say and from what I recall, Monahan availed himself of that right.
