The Thing about this that I find annoying is that JD's crew seemed to be good at drafting tough to play against. It was their specialty in CBJ and the Blues before that. It's a bummer if JD's team ends up leaving with him.

With the system we've built up and the hyper-speed rebuild we've managed, save for a few tweeks, it's so strange to see people get excited at Gorton, JD, and Gordie getting the boot.

We'll probably be fine, as long as Dolan keeps his paws off; but the ease that we've gone through this transition is unprecedented. And the guys that orchestrated it have all moved on now. Or in the process of it, in Gordie's case.

I like Gordie’s philosophy in drafting players. Almost all the players we draft I’m initially a big fan of, but I feel like he tries to be too smart at times and that bites us

I feel that happens way less than it is, though. McIlrath and Lindbom, off the top of my head, are the two head scratchers for sure, but both have came down or are coming down due to injuries.

There were some big misses on GC's resume but so the f*** what. Every single scout in the history of scouting has more than one huge miss on their resume. It's not an exact science and when Sather was busy throwing away draft picks for a box of cigars and whisky, GC and his staff did a decent enough job getting any talent in here at all.

This. Every team has misses, but with what Clark and Co. mustered up is incredibly solid. Again, there are some picks where he went way off, but for the most part it has been good.

Theres also players they targeted that they didnt have the opportunity to draft, which im sure would be part of his resume for drury's decision. Of what we know about, Pettersson was a big target for them, who knows who else they missed on/couldnt draft, for better or worse.

That's true, there are always guys you want but can't draft. That's true for every person involved in scouting, however. For all I know, Bobrov hated Lindbom and that pick was because Allaire wanted him (just as a hypothetical). But, since I don't know what I don't know, I judge based on what I do know, which is who we did pick.

I mean look, Bobrov could be great, I really don't know. I think we've done an OK job dratfing since Clarke has been here, and our European/Russian drafting has also been OK. I just feel like Drury will probably look to shape things in his own image to the extent that he can, and I'm not sure if Bobrov would--or should--be his guy.

How does it compare to the rest of the league. I bet it’s middle of the pack. Which is mitigated by the lack of top picks we had compared to most teams.

I don't have anything bad to say about Clark. This was inevitable. He is getting up there in age (68). Retirement or reduced role was/is going to happen. Talk of Bobrov succeeding him has been going on around here for two years. Remains to be seen if that is the case, but this isn't something I would consider big news, if true.

Great catch Joey, that is pretty significant.

Between this and Pajuniemi not getting a PR, one could wonder what is going on at the HQ. Ppl seem to be busy.

Bobrov would be the next in line, I imagine, unless he wanted to stay in his current role.

Won't lie, I like Gordie. Think that he and his scouting staff has hit on a lot of the prospects that have come through this organization, especially while not having a 1st round pick in 4 of the 10 years in the 2010's. This move, to what seemingly is a senior advisor position, keeps him on still while moving on from the position for someone with a younger eye. Think of it like Sather is doing now, but with their scouting department.

I like the move, TBH. Wondering who gets the position, though. Feel like Bobrov or Morehouse might have the upper hand, ATM, while speculating of course...

It's tough, I think they've hit on some great players and missed on others that seemed like they should have done more homework. I think they've done OK but an overhaul of the scouting department may not be the worst thing, especially if Drury wants to go more analytics heavy.

Most scouting groups have some big misses and I think we take it for granted that some very good prospects were drafted by these guys and it's not like Edmonton or whoever that can't draft out of the 1st round at all.
