Jets played pretty well. Not loving Pionk on the backend. Thought Ehlers looked like a guy that hasn’t played any games yet this year.

I’d put money down on Ehlers+ being moved for a top pair dman at some point this season.

You sure are anxious to trade Ehlers.

Ehlers always looks like he’s gonna have a breakout year and the he doesn’t or he gets injured!

don’t like Perfetan getting gifted the 2C without earning it, sooner or later he needs to do something!

jets D still the weak spot

What exactly do you want Perfetti to do to earn the 2C job?

He had last year to adapt to the NHL. He did well. He is a C. We don't have a 2C ATM.

I suppose we could gift the 2C spot to Vilardi instead. How would that be different? Then we could gift 2RW to Perfetti but he would not have earned it.

We could have Perfetti play 3C for a while as an apprenticeship. That would mean playing Lowry at 2C. What would you have to say to that?

I thought Perfetti played well. There was one instant where he passed instead of shot, but that happens. If Nino was able to chip the concrete off his gloves, the Jets would have won and Perfetti would have gotten points.

This was a decent start especially on the road, marred by an overall poor game by Schmidt. The first line looked dangerous, the second line has great promise, the third line looked good, Morrissey, Demelo and Samberg (best game I’ve seen him play) looked good, the power play looked good. They have more rust than most teams because of illness and injuries in the preseason. They will get it going,

It's almost like some people don't expect there to be a learning curve. He did a lot last night that will make his coach happy. Still a lot to work on as well.

Edit:

Just looked at the matchups and Calgary tried to get their top two lines out against Cole whenever they could. He saw 9 and half of his 11 and a half 5 on 5 minutes against one of Kadri/Lindholm. He gave up an astounding. 01 XGA to Lindholm and a .03 XGA to Kadri. He crushed it defensively against their best players.

Ehlers would have left the bench if it was a bad injury. He was still there. Looks like he got the wind knocked out of him, maybe his stick got him in an uncomfortable spot. I think some ppl over exaggerating the extent of his "injury"

Jets were the better team. Markstrom tho went God mode and Schmidt and Dillon let us down.
There were only 5 or 6 seconds left. It's not like he would've waited long. That said, hopefully you're right. I could see him aggravating his neck, but I can't see him breaking his collarbone on that jump into the boars.

Should have won that game
I think Calgary scored on all 3 chances they had that game
I can't think of much we did wrong all night other then not score enough
We broke out of zone with ease. We entered the O zone with ease.
Don't think we got hemmed in our zone all night till the end
I think at one point we had give up 8 shots against about half way through the game and maybe 12 shot attempts.
Thought all 4 lines looked solid. All 4 had chances to score and multiple chances at that. Can't think of too many weak points other then Perfetti in the faceoff dot.
I thought the D looked really good for the most part. Morrissey got better as the game went along. Samberg looks like a bonfide top 4 D and made Pionk look good. The bottom pair is the weakest part of the team and for the most part I thought they played fine.

Not going to comment about the last part of the game. It happens. It was game one. You move on and take the positives which there was a lot of. Calgary fans are going to be "happy" they won but jesus they looked terrible.

It was game 1. Positives far outweighed negatives apart from the score. TC did not go well for Jets with illness and injury. They are less prepared for the start of the season than you would normally expect.

Camp was a disaster for sure; however, I'm hopeful that by getting everything out of the way early, the second-half of our season will be smooth sailing :sarcasm:

Mirror image of last year?

All I know is that if you didn't know the score you would have thought Jets won by about 6-1.

I'm going to give them a few games to settle in before I leap to any conclusions. It didn't look like Bones' systems were holding them back offensively.

Was super impressed by how well our top line was clicking. That might work out after all.

2nd line hasn't quite found its mojo, but man I really enjoy how all four of our forward lines have completely different playstyles. It's interesting to watch and seems effective, at least so far so good.

Good point -
Makes you wonder how systems sometimes come into the discussion and how much they may or may not, stifle a line's ability to generate offense -
Looks to me like Bones is letting them play - as long as that includes both ends of the ice.
If anything, our end looked the most disorganized - and this on a team that is "so called" preaching D first.
I think the message is more about a complete game over a structure that supports D or O as individual segments of the game plan.

Interesting. I thought the structure once established in the ozone was the same for lines 2 through 4. They tended to try to get it back to the point for a point shot with traffic. Really only line 1 showed a lot of rotations and trying to break things down. It will be interesting if we see line 2 start to incorporate some of that as they get more familiar with each other.

I do agree that they each looked different exiting the zone and attacking off the rush which is good to see.

You might be right about the o-zone. And some of it might be just due to line 2 kind of still figuring things out, and line 4 Namestnikov overcarrying the puck :P

Good early signs though.

I thought you couldn't challenge if it was in the D zone?
I thought it was any missed stoppage that resulted in a goal, my bad.

He had an all situations xGA of 0.1. He was phenomenal.

Moving forward the Jets have a very hard start to the season, it's possible that the Jets might have an 0-4 record by the time they get to Edmonton. Start the home stand on a positive note by beating the Panthers who are probably the easiest of the 3 on the home stand and then welcome P L Dubois.

Great to be back on the boards its been awhile.

I thought Jets played really well, and our PP looked lethal. Markstrom is a really weird goalie makes those insane stops, and lets in a beach ball. Although, that was a pretty good shot by Connor to be fair. Our D corps needs work. We did well to limit chances, but we tend to make some mental mistakes at crucial times via Schmidt.

I think if possible we should entertain trading Ehlers for a top 2 Dman if it's on the table. I know beggars can't be choosers, but preferably a right shot defenseman. I love the player, but he seems so injury prone, and it's stalling his eventual potential.

Anyways, looking forward to the Jets 3 game homestand!

GO JETS GO!
