That's fair. At the time it looked to me like he made a mediocre effort or mistimed it pretty badly. I also hold Shesterki to a pretty high standard..

Softy of the night is this Sean Couturier goal on Tristan Jarry



It came down to this one and the goal Jack scored on Quick to open the scoring. They were both kind of similar and from the same spot, but the Couturier one looks a little bit worse. Not to mention Couturier isn’t as good as Jack Hughes.

I think I f***ed up on the total goal count on that one, as one of the Sabres goal was an empty netter. I still only gave Sorokin 6 goals against and not 7, but I think I counted 7 and not 6 as goals scored against goalies in my concluding numbers.

Blackwood paying immediate dividends for Colorado on that long term deal. I have no doubt he will continue to not give up any stoppable goals for this season and the following five seasons since he’s always been so steady.

Softy of the night is this Matt Beniers goal on Thatcher Demko



Terrible goal. Too far out. Off his glove. Demko has been horrible since returning. They’re gonna wind up falling out of playoff spot if they wait for him to turn it around and he doesn’t. They need to go back to Lankinen.

Other contenders for last night were the Mangiapane goal on Matt Murray. Looked quite a bit like the Aho goal on Allen, only it was on a rush but it was from either further out I'm pretty sure. Hit about halfway down Murray's left pad and went in. And the second goal he allowed looked identical to the first goal Allen allowed last night. Only it came on a power play. The first goal on Allen last night just looked like it was on the power play.

And McDonagh on Shesterkin was also really bad. An extremely biased Devils fan and Rangers (which I don't consider myself to be that bad and biased) hater would have given that softy of the night.

I see a lot of goals like this around. They are very common. I still nail the goalie with a stoppable goal, but I try not to give them softy of the night unless there's just no better options.

I didn't realize how common these goals were around the league until I started watching every goal. In my first year of doing these those goals were ALWAYS the softy of the night.

It's funny how I notice a ton more of those goals than wraparound goals. I sometimes go an entire week without seeing a true wraparound goal. I think there was one on Adin Hill the other night, which I didn't nail him for because it went off his teammate. I did see another wraparound the other night and now I can't even remember who it was on because I watch so many of these that my memory is really short with them if they didn't come on a Devils goalie.

Pathetic wraparound game winner by Ryan Strome on Calvin Pickard. Not sure if that’s quite a wraparound. He didn’t come around the entire net, but he was behind the net and put it in at the side.

An earlier goal on Pickard in that game is definitely leading for softy of the night. I’ve only reviewed two games though.
