The only goalie who might be available I'd pay the 1st for would be Hellebuyck.

Otherwise I'd rather draft a good prospect and hope to sign Varlamov to a stop gap contract.

Yeah my ideal off-season with the goalies is signing both Varlamov and Hill and having that as the Penguins tandem. Somehow pulling off Hellebuyck would be a game changer, but I figure that’s not realistically an option.

Agreed, hopefully we can find someone for a year or two and then see where Blomqvist is at in terms of development. Keep the pick and draft someone this year

I think it would funniest for Kyle Dubas to be fired by the Leafs, hired by the Penguins, and then bring in Matt Murray. Everyone involved could be mad about it.

So many moving pieces including knowing if the 1 million cap increase estimate ends up being true... but it's possible that Boston could have to break up the Ullmark/Swayman tandem. The 2023 1st would certainly have to be involved.

edit: I personally don't think it will be in net where the Bruins end up sacrificing, but I ain't in charge, so who knows.

The Habs have Jake Allen who might be available, if they expect Primeau to be worth keeping, and he's waiver-eligible next season. Allen can be an OK alernating goalie, but he can't be getting 50+ games a year.

Frankly, if you want him for a similar (non-goalie, preferably forward) contract or a middling pick it could work. There might even be a forward that Montreal doesn't have great faith in who could be given a chance in Pittsburgh he wouldn't get in MTL (Ylonen perhaps) we could throw in if there's something in it.

With how much cap space the Penguins have going into next season, they should have a ton of options.

And hopefully that option ends up being trading for Markstrom. Or possibly Vladar I guess.

Markstrom's contract is really scary though, so only way I'd take that on is if Granlund is going the other way

Flames can't afford to take that much cap back though with their situation. Realistically the Flames will move Vladar to make room for Wolf anyway. But it's fun to dream.

Yeah thats understandable, can't see anyone trading for Markstrom without significant cap coming back though, so like you said Vladar is probably the one to go.

Not a bad suggestion, 1 year left on his contract.
Helly is turning 30 in May. Hits ufa at 31. So if Pitt wants him to stick around after his contract is up, talking the retirement contract of 6 years at say $6 mill per ala Markstrom give or take in which he finishes it at 37.

That’s what it would take to have him for more than a season.
