Goalie pads size.

I'm not getting ice ones, but rather road hockey pads.

I took the measurements and put it into a site that suggested I use 28 inches.

Now, I've been reading other places of people 5'7 off skates using 33 inch pads. I'm 6foot off skates, so should I use bigger ?

Basically, if I go to Senior size will it still fit me fine ? I'm not completely new to goaltending. I've used various pad sizes on road, roller and on ice.
 
What's your ATK? (Ankle To Knee) That is usually the deciding factor. You can usually go between 1-2" from the recommended length depending on how much pad you prefer.

28" seems rather small for your height though. I'm 5'9" off skates and I use 29+1" pads and those are pretty much at the limit of what I would say fits me.
 
I'm 6' and use a 35 + 1 for my pads TPS R8, I also have a set of Koho 580s that are 35. I'm a good 34.5 so the 34s are a bit to small and the 35s are a bit to long. The TPS R8s are very easy to reconfigure because the leg channels are all Velcro or laced in.

The manufactures all have different ways to measure the pads too. So like skates you need to go check out a few different pads to get you in the ballpark of what you want to accomplish with pad sizing.

With that said My short 10 year old son wears Bauer RX6 29 +1 pads on the ice.
 
I agree, the 28s will be too small for you. I'm 5'4 and I was using them for street hockey and they were barely serviceable - I got them before I'd played at all so had no clue how they were supposed to fit. They were too small really. So I'm pretty sure you will want something bigger. And yeah, make sure to do the ATK measurement and work with that.

This made me laugh.

Maybe I do have short legs...

My ankle to knee standing straight is 17.5 inches.

My ankle to knee standing in my presumed goalie position is 15.5

The pads I'd be ordering would be online, as a small town does have road hockey stuff that protects you from kids, not adults.
 
I've found some pads. 100 bucks, and they're 32 inches.

Maybe I do have freakishly short legs. That goes past my hip...

I found a seller on ebay, whose guide says 16 inches (slightly bent) is good for 32 inches.

EDIT:

Anyone know where to get a cover to protect ice hockey pads from damage on pavement ? Or what the name might be ? Or do I have to do a home made sheet type thing ?

You're obviously not measuring your ATK correctly, it's not suppose to change when you bend. And 32 inches means the length of the surface area of the pad face, from the very top of the pad to the toe, including the bends. Not the height of the pad when you stand it up.

I'm sorry, but how could you possibly fit a 29+1" pads? Those would be intermediate sizing.
I'm 5'6 and fits 32 - 33"

Oh I know they're a bit too small, probably should be using at least 31 or 32, but I use them for ball hockey only and they're not too bad so I never bothered to change them over the years.
 
We are doing minor Peewee (11 year olds) tryouts right now and I saw a kid who was wearing 33 + 1 sub zero Brian's pads. To big, but his mom says that she thinks that he will grow into them over the summer. The kid is about an inch and a half taller than my kid and my kid is in 29 + 1.
Unless the kid grows 6+ inches he will be playing in pad that are to big for him for the next 2 years.

I see this all the time. Parents trying to skimp on buying new gear every year don't realize that it can adversely affect their kid's development. Oh well, to each their own!
