I wouldn't really want to make that judgement yet. This was most likely always scheduled like this. Have Sakic/CMac met with the owners yet? Are they going to meet with the owners at some point?

We can complain about past decisions all we want, but he gave Bednar a roster going into the playoffs that most experts thought would win the Stanley Cup.

Bednar and his coaching staff choked. Again.

I repeat… ONE year getting past the second round in a DECADE with the greatest forward/defenseman duo in 40 years. One.

No I don't believe so. Coaches and players usually just do the post game pressers and that's it for the year. GM and in this case Joe usually do the pressers the following week after they're eliminated.

CMac can redeem himself by trading Necas+Girard for EP+2nd or 3rd. Then…

Re-sign Lindgren to 4 x 7
Re-sign Drouin 3 x 4
Sign a free agent 3rd pair LD
Trade Colton and Wood for a solid but cheaper 3rd line winger. Someone making 2 or 3 mill instead of 6 mill Colton and Wood make combined. That will free up about 3 mill in cap space.

Then at the trade deadline, go get a top 6 winger. To start the season…

They just got voted for Ted Lindsay. My worry is the dependence on these guys for success. Much like Messi dependence in prior years for FCB.

You know how much I hate JT Miller. I'd rather have him than trade Necas and Girard for EP... even if they gave us a 1st instead of the 2nd or 3rd. EP is NOT the answer. But then again... nobody will be the answer as long as Bednar is still around.

I mean JT Miller is not available, and what options are there for 2C? Unless Bennett becomes available and decides to sign with the Avs for a reasonable price, I just don’t see anything else out there.

Yeah we might need a coaching change, but we still need a 2C. We just can’t re-sign aging Nelson who isn’t really a fit on this team. There is nothing out there. Necas+Girard package might finally get us someone good at 2C

I get what you are saying, but I would rather keep my pieces and look to see if I can make something else shake loose.

Do you get how soul-crushing it would be to go from Jost to Newhook to Johanson to Mittlestadt to Nelson to EP?

If the can make a trade for a 2C, it needs to happen after Bednar is gone. Can't afford him ruining even more assets being squandered.

Bennett if he hits the market, Kadri if you miss on that, Necas stapled to Landeskog, then Coyle with Necas and Landeskog as a last resort.

I don’t see Bennett and Kadri as legit options. We never sign expensive free agents, don’t think we can afford Bennett, or if he even becomes available. Flames said Kadri isn’t available, maybe he becomes available next year but that’s still a long shot. Coyle is temporary solution there, can’t go with him full time
