It is time for it.

I was ready after last game and tonight further solidifies it.

Chucky Sideburns 5-0 | 1.29GAA | .958 save pct
Binner 8-5-3 | 2.80GAA | .912 save pct | 1 shutout
Husso 3-2-1 | 2.46GAA | .927 save pct | 1 shutout

chucky sideburns for our #1 goalie, Binner can fight for his spot back. Husso may be the odd man out.

Thats the same thing people said when Binner came up

I’ll start this by saying that I really like Lindgren. However, the difference between the two, is that we already have two legit goalies this time.

Allen wasn’t playing well in 2019, and we didn’t really have anyone else to go to except for Binner. We got rid of Johnson, and Husso was hurt.

I won't take anything away from Lindgren because he has played great but a great 5 game stretch does not tear the net away from Binnington. It is important to note as well that defense has also substantially increased their level of play in our own end over the past 2 weeks. I think we have to see what Binnington can do behind this improved defensive play because he was not getting nearly the same level of support earlier in the year.

I know it's is easy to see the shiny new toy performing well and appoint him the next top guy. However, I would argue that Binnington was our MVP and the main reason for our winning record before he went down with Covid. His numbers might not jump off the page like Lindgren's but the Blues defensive play was a mess the first 2 months of the season and he was on an island in that crease.

Lindgren has played well but I can see a difference vs how Binnington started off. This current Blues roster has been depleted between Covid and injuries. The team is playing more defensive because it has to.

His 5 games have been against Dallas twice, Detroit, Montreal, and 6 minutes vs Florida. That’s also part of the context.

Nobody is complaining about winning or Lindgren’s play but it’s hardly a goalie controversy.

Binnys mumbers this year are that of a league average goalie. I think people overrate him based on cup run bht he hasnt been bad.

Lindgreen is on a run right now, but guys like craig hammond have done this before them been out of the league after the next year. The sample size is way too small to be moving guys to commit to lindgreen. Play him while hes hot, but the chances of him actually being this good long term are next to none. The chances of him even being an average nhl goalie i would say are probably below 50% based on history. Give him chance while hes producing but dont get crazy with moving away our other goalies based on a mini hot streak from a career minor leaguer who is 28 and had trouble staying at the nhl level previously.

yeah, Binny was regularly making incredible saves just to keep the team in games

did he give up some softies? yup. and honestly, that's uncharacteristic of him. hopefully he puts that behind him

did he also stand on his head at times? absolutely

Its not aboht earning his slot back as much as lindgren coming to earth. Lindgren will start while hes putting up a .950+ sv%.

Hell he will start even if hes daily putting up .920s.

Absolutely play the hot hand though

Just dont expect that to last.

Really it's 4 games plus a couple extra minutes... he had a great start when he first played for Montreal also. Won his first 5 games, had a sub 2 GAA.
He won his first 5 games in parts of 3 seasons against weak competition at the time. They were bad teams playing badly in the stretch where he faced them. The only team not weak in which he won was against Vegas. Call it luck or whatever you want, but his play right now is considerably different to him playing back in 2015.

He's won his first 5 games, but I don't really count that Florida game. That was Husso's win regardless of what the stats say. In saying this though, it's not like Lindgren was playing against "weak" competition. Detroit beat us just a week earlier and won 5 of their last 6 games. Dallas, although we did beat them twice, were on a 7 game winning streak before they lost 3 in a row. They played well before facing off against us the first time, but they did blow a lead against Vegas and were outplayed by the Kings. Montreal right now is a gimme, so out of the 5 wins, I would say that 2 of those are probably "easy" wins. I think the competition he's facing right now is difficult given the circumstances, but I do agree that he is waaaaay overplaying his actual production. I just want to give him more credit for his work right now because I do think he is playing incredibly well.

If we're trying to anoint a new #1 goalie for this season and we believe that 5 games for this year is a valid sample size, then I pronounce Husso as the new #1 goalie. I mean the team can play like crap in front of him against really good teams and yet he'll still play well.

Binnington and Lindgren can fight for the back-up spot utilizing the traditional Zamboni jousting as the deciding factor.

All of the teams he's beaten are in the bottom of goals scored, and none of them will make the playoffs. He still deserves credit for winning the games when the blues have been depleted, but there's no controversy on who the #1 goalie is.

Oh I'm definitely not saying he's a #1 goalie on this team. I believe he deserves a lot of credit for the way he's played, but I'm not arguing for him being the #1. I'm firmly in the camp of riding the hot hand, but there's no reason why Husso or Binnington should lose their spots.

Guys, who's your backup behind Lindgren atm? I can't find any info on the team's website or on nhl.com. Or do you always go with an EBUG for cap reasons?

"Controversy" is cute. Maybe Lindgren will play himself into a back-up gig here or elsewhere and the Blues are comfortable trading one of their guys for some unexpected value. I'm curious to see if the Blues will carry 3-goalies when everyone is healthy, if such a thing isn't a preposterous notion. Can't see Lindgren clearing waivers to go back to Springfield...
