  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

They fumbled with their losses to Montreal, Utah, and NYR, especially given how hot St. Louis is running. With both Petey, Chytil, and Hogs out, they're probably not making the playoffs. The only reason they could is if Hughes and Demko put on some of the greatest performances in Canucks history and will this team to a huge streak. If Hughes does it, he wins the Hart. The guy is the McDavid of defense right now and is probably the only reason there's a non-zero chance this crippled roster makes the playoffs.

Honestly, the only realistic chance Canucks can make it is if "Vezina" Demko emerges, and stays healthy for the rest of the season.

I wonder if Demko goes in God Mode from now til the end of season (whenever that might be ideally playoffs) do they use that as an excuse to package him and another asset this offseason for something of value or are they more inclined to try to resign him for a cheap one year deal and pray to god he can stay healthy for a season?

I'd still be more inclined to keep him.......I know it sucks balls how much he's been hurt but if and when he's healthy he's a BIG advantage for us - he's shown to be money.........Hard for me to let that go even thou I know many of us were clamoring to move on..............interested to see what the team thinks......

The canucks next five games, including tonight, are our “easy” ones. The schedule after that is f***ed other than a San Jose game thrown in between.

You have to grab at least 7 points of the next 10 available. At least. And you have to figure a loss of some sort to Winnipeg is likely in that.

Then again, I could see teams like Dallas, Vegas and Colorado pacing themselves to wind down the season. It's f***ed over our draft position in the past....could work in our favour this time.

youd also end up with a different point total/draft position for every year with an altered lineup to what it was and likely dont get hughes, podkolzin, hoglander or guenther
Do you really think McCann would have made that much of a difference to the standings?

Good point tbh. Tbh a lot of the time with this stuff, you think something’s cooked and then one team bangs off a ridiculous heater like the blues are right now.

I would have had the blues a clear #4 three weeks ago amongst the pushers.

I was always a bit higher on the flames because I love Kadri, and Wolf has (predictably) been awesome.

He has a full NMC and is reportedly great in the room. I'm pretty sure there's something else about one of his kids receiving specialized treatment in BC.

Plus he just signed the deal and has performed as expected. The team was never going to ask him to waive.
Yeah and it sucks they extended him.

Canucks still have time, Demko's still on contract with us in 2025-2026.

They had a core of Pettersson, Horvat, Demko, Hughes and Boeser all U26 below market value and failed to do f***ing anything. It was a masterclass in how to piss away your contention window. A complete disgrace that they couldn't even make it out of the second round with the talent they had.
Crazy to think if Benning just picked the obvious guy in 2016 they would have had a run of studs

2013 - Horvat (elite 2C)
2014 - Demko (franchise goalie)
2015 - Boeser (top line forward)
2016 - Tkachuk (franchise winger)
2017 - Pettersson (franchise center)
2018 - Hughes (generational dman)

All for the current regime to f*** it up though.

Would be a * depending on how Tkachuck would have impacted the team and the overall standings.

Van was 2nd worst with 69 points and 26 wins in the tie breaker. Then AZ and NJ tied at 70 points but NJ was 4th with more Wins. Then it was Buf at 78 points. NJ did win that lottery, so be swapping Petey for Makar if all reports were true as to who Benning was eyeing that draft if Van got between 1-4 more wins. More than that there were some misses in that range.

2018, Van tied with Det at 73 points but more wins. Chi was at 76 points with 1 more win, then NYR at 77 with same win total, then Edm at 78 same win total. Move past any of those and unlikely Hughes is there. Best option is likely then Dobson (or at least the version of Dobson under Trotz).

Do you really think McCann would have made that much of a difference to the standings?
Just off an offensive side in 2017-18 McCann put up 28pts in 68 games for FLA.
gaudette, megna, gaunce, boucher, chaput, burmistorv, motte, dowd combined for 154 games and a total of 22 pts.

They were 4 pts back of the rangers, and 5 pts back of the oilers. Considering the canucks had 11 OTL that year, and 6 games where they were down by 1 goal in the last minute of regulation. An increase of scoring would have given this team more points putting them in a different drafting position.

Do you really think you can say the team would end up in the exact point and drafting position with another young offensive player in it? Of course youd also have to consider the aspect of Gudbranson not being on this team, how that cap would of been spent on the defence? Would the 2016 2nd rnd pick (33rd overall) make the team for the 2017-18 season? (kyrou, debrincat, hronek, girard still available in that area) Would it have been traded up for someone in the draft, or traded in a different deal for a different player to make the team better? How would all of those additional moves change the outcomes of the years to follow as well?

its not that easy to just say we could of had all this.

One hell of a flu, but also it was one hell of a night.. Worth it ? I really don't know,

Rest up, champ!
