GDT: [GM73] Vancouver Canucks @ New York Islanders | Wed, Mar. 26th | 4:30pm PST | SNP | Bowie William Horvat

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Isles with a couple of tough OTL the past 2 games vs Cal and CBJ. Up in the 3rd then got tied up and lost.

Rangers still in the mix and their key advantage is their RW. Have like 31 while the other clubs in the mix are only at like 25 at most.

In the West, STL with 28, Cal with 26, Van with 25. Not just catching STL but need to do so in Regulation as well with the games in hand.

It's over. The odds are way too stacked against them. They pretty much have to win out.

I keep forgetting Roy is with the NYI

If a Canuck coach made comments like he did, we'd be fined into infinity and then get the short end of the officiating stick for the balance of the season.

But it seems the NHL is just tuning out his comments here, and I'd expect they get some cushy officiating, too.

Having to win all games in hand is an uphill climb. Add in the injuries. All of those blown 3rd period leads is like the gap they need to close now.
Could end up being the only CAD that misses the PO if Mon and Ott and Cal make it in.

The disastrous start with Boudreau, and the composition of the blueline really sunk us. Luke Schenn was our second best defensemen that year - good for Luke, but not good for us.

that start of the year was such a gut punch. The team looked so poised to finally do something and then the season was over basically after a month.

How to say you are a casual without saying you are a casual fan.............Myers has a NTC there is ZERO chance he was going anywhere.........
I know Myers has a NTC, that doesn't stop them from asking him to waive it does it? I'm anything but a casual fan, I'm a fan that's tired of 30 years of watching them choose the same path that leads to the same place.

Sure I guess anything is possible ........I feel you on that. It's been a lifelong of trauma .........

I agree I would have definitely preferred they retool this deadline..........as it was pretty clear this wasn't gonna be their year. But now that we are here and the team is playing their ass off I'm gonna at least cheer to the end........

They can still play well, they just have to lose. At this point in time, they might be able to drop 3 spots in the standings by seasons end. That's not going to make a huge difference. In terms of asset management and draft and develop, It was going good then all of a sudden winning became mandatory again and short cuts taken.

Always robbing Peter to pay Paul and nothing is ever gained. Need a D, trade a center. Sign as many bottom 6 players for good value, then extend them until there value is then gone. It's not exactly a recipe I've ever seen used to win a cup. Haha.

I hate even seeing OELs initials in writing, let alone his full name. That stupid f***ing trade ruined this team's chances of competing. Dylan Guenther is exactly what they need right now.
Trading is absolutely a part of hockey but the Canucks should trade less. They would be better.

McCann Petey Guenther
Hoglander Horvat Boeser
Podkolzin Gaudette

Hughes
Forsling

Demko

Free agency could have easily filled out the rest over the years and fortunes could have changed and different players drafted but I believe they would be better off drafting and developing more and only trading when absolutely necessary.

My hot take is that whichever one of the Blues or Canucks get into the playoffs, they’ll go on a deep run. Either would be on a heater and playing with loads of confidence like the Kings in 2012. Very likely it’ll be the Blues, but it would be cool if the Canucks could go on a run at the end here with everything against them after everything the players and fans have had to deal with this season.
The Blues already have experience running on a heater all the way to the cup in 2019.

youd also end up with a different point total/draft position for every year with an altered lineup to what it was and likely dont get hughes, podkolzin, hoglander or guenther

He has a full NMC and is reportedly great in the room. I'm pretty sure there's something else about one of his kids receiving specialized treatment in BC.

Plus he just signed the deal and has performed as expected. The team was never going to ask him to waive.

49 games of Spencer Martin and Colin Delia. A defence of Hughes, Myers, Schenn, OEL, Burroughs, Bear.
Delia never went back to the NHL after that season... as a matter of fact, he hasn't been a starter in the AHL or posted above .900 SV% since. Martin is now down in the AHL too.

Burroughs went to the Sharks after, where he had the worst +/- among D-men. Now he's a constant healthy scratch in LA and getting like 10 minutes/games when he does play.

Bear was done in by injuries, unfortunately.

Schenn is still a serviceable #6.

And OEL, well, he went on to win the Cup with the Panthers playing 18-20 minutes/night because of course :rolly:
