I think you have to let these guys play through it, and that means giving them some zone starts. I don’t think giving them 0 O Zone starts / dropping them from the first PP is going to help in this case.

Also, think it’s kind of unfair that DeBrusk gets the same treatment as Petey here. He’s streaky, but he’s still leading the team in goals and largely living up to his contract.

Too little too late. They are still playing not to lose, for the OTL points, the safe play.
I have posted before that the loser points skew the standings.
It is easier to play for a tie than a win.
14 W's = 28pts, 66 L's can get a team into the playoffs 14W -0 -66 OTL = 92 pts with a losing win/loss record but a winning points percentage record. This happened to the Canucks in the past. The Naslund,"we choked" year. when Colorado had more points but fewer wins and won the division

Tocchet has played them too hard too long. How much weight they have lost who knows. Sherwood isn't hitting as much and later now. Playing the way Tocchet wants builds up a physical debt, that is why he has never been a winning coach in 9 years except for last year. Players just get burned out and recovery becomes spotty.

Doesn't really matter what he does ... if Pettersson continues to be a total drag on everyone the forward roster is completely broken. In fact, his best bet to actually win games given the defense and goaltending are decent (and Pettersson is playing at being a bottom-six shut-down centre) is probably exactly what he's doing.

Seattle isn’t a good team, they are middling and don’t have strong defense and a potent offence, their goaltending is average at best

You're missing all the ingredients for that, including JT Miller breaking out as a top-line centre, Pettersson actually being good, and Demko going into God mode. The roster overall is substantially worse.

Your opinion is based on years or decades of watching the game, listening to the rhetoric and enduring fanatical unreasonable expectations of wagon jumpers and instant gratification demands and those negative outcomes.

Some poster will declare that this team, regardless of where they finish in the standings are right there only a player away or they will blame the weather for only winning 1/3 of the games.
Currently the Canucks WIN/LOSS record is 27 W and 32 L of which there are 6 OT/SO wins.
They have 11 loser points added to their total skewing the standings and making it harder to understand good from bad for some fans.

Barry Pederson registered almost a point a game a season for the first two years he was in Vancouver before injuries saddles his career. Stop coveting back Cam Neely who was a bum in Vancouver and couldn't hit the net.
We're throwing our guys under the bus like we always do. We loved Mat Cooke, Todd Bertuzzi, and even Cloutier until we traded them away. There's dozens of guys like that we've done that to.

At the top-end it is unquestionably worse except for Hughes (though he is also obviously not at 100%), subtract elite-level Miller, Vezina Demko, and Pettersson now sucks. Boeser is also nowhere near the levels he's played at over the past couple years without Miller. Your top-end talent is what wins you games.

No middle, no bottom, no defence on that team would absolutely make up for Miller because Petey had 68 points in 82 games that year. He's not far off that this year. Lankinen has been good. Silovs goaltending is what got Bruce fired.

honestly coaching staff needs to stop f***ing around and just run a pp of petey at center with debrusk and boeser. put boeser in the bumper. if you have to, replace debrusk with a corner guy. then hughes and hronek at the point, because for now while he’s not at full strength quinn needs someone with confidence (ie, not boeser or petey) to share qb responsibilities. plus having a shot to draw coverage wouldn’t hurt, being that no one else will shoot ever.

no more of this our old excellent third line is now our expansion-level first line so they are also our pp1 up front.

if we are going to suck on the pp at least suck with the best players.

I also don’t understand why our coach doesn’t keep Sherwood with Petey and Debris,. Together they have all played much better, yet we seem to always move away from it.
