I think posters are overreacting to Petey's play this game. He has obviously had major issues with his skating, but it has looked better and better. It is hardly surprising that it looks bad again in a back to back game. I'm also not seeing that he is checked out or not trying - he is just a step behind.

At the same time I completely understand that people are frustrated with him for multiple reasons, and perhaps it would be best for everyone if he's shipped out. I just don't see the Canucks getting anything remotely close to his potential back in a trade.

As for Tocchet's system I'm not a hockey scholar. But I know this is the most boring hockey I have watched in a very long time. Might as well watch soccer.

Yes his skating doesn't look 100% but you don't have to be the fastest player in the league to make plays.

Terry's skating doesn't look too much better than Pettersson's right now but he was making plays with the puck all game.

Boeser can barely move himself but he managed to make a nice sauce pass to DOC for a partial break.

He is going to leave anyways if the team doesn’t improve significantly. The chances of the latter is very very low.

I absolutely hate the idea of doing this, but they should consider trading him in the offseason.

The reasons for:

- He is starting to show signs of physically breaking down. The playoffs really did a number on him and they've been playing him in extremely hard minutes all season long. If he starts becoming injury prone, his value decreases.

- He doesn't have an NMC or NTC as far as I can tell, so there would be 31 other teams lining up to make offers for a player of his calibre. The Canucks could name their price.

- The team is rapidly imploding and it looks like we're going to have to retool at least, rebuild at most. Hughes wants to win now, he's already spent the first half of his prime with a team that has done very little to actually contend.

- He went though the worst parts of the Benning years and has now been a part of an extremely public and toxic breakup in the locker room. That has got to be wearing on him emotionally. If he asks for a trade, bet your ass it will leak to the media, and now you have no leverage.

- The NJ connection grows ever closer with each passing day, and it becomes less and less likely he stays here. Every team in the league would sign him to a $14/15 million dollar 7 year deal right now if they had the cap space. The opportunity to play with his brothers and near his parents is far too good to pass up to stay here.

- Canucks would get a ridiculous haul...Bedard/Celebrini level young talent in return. Columbus could provide a package that would transform the core of this team, in order to get Hughes on a pairing with Werenski. He's on one of the best contracts in the league for two more seasons, and the team loses leverage as he gets closer to FA.

This would suck and hurt beyond belief, because there's no way we ever see another player of his calibre play for this city again. But they've royally f***ed their chances of competing while he was cost controlled, so here we are.

Just don't see them doing it until next off-season, even though that'll decrease his value by probably at least one 1st round pick.

They'll try to fix issues this off-season and hope Pettersson bounces back. If Petey is still a corpse next season this core is doomed and you might as well trade Hughes to kickstart the rebuild. At that time the acquiring team can sign him to an extension, as well.

What could be happening is the player's finally surrendering to the fact this team isn't going anywhere for the next few years the way it is constructed now.

Dhali really needs to think more his age and realize most of those listening are not rubes seeing and hearing his shtick. His attempt at panicking the market if there was a rebuild is getting old. He sells the negativity of even a mini rebuild as being .... as bad as the team has been the last decade without dong a rebuild. At least Buffalo has lots of players UNDER 26 yrs old that still have an upside and they are not on a team all by themselves.

I am sure they can trade Hughes after the end of next season to whatever team gets the #1 overall. QH will still have another year on his contract and that would give that team a full season to sign him to a new deal OR trade him at the TDL. The more options a team could have the more willingness to make that kind of a deal.

The Canucks got Bure in the draft, Linden in the draft, Sedins in the draft, Horvat, Boeser, Hughes, Pettersson, Demko, most if not all through the draft.
The number of players via trade is quite a bit smaller, Naslund, Bertuzzi, JTM and most of those were under a different CBA with more player restrictions and players not making generational wealth.

Looked like 3 of those goals on Silovs were absolute snipes
I say 4 out of 4 but still he just has to stop at least one or two of them. All were deadly shots from well in and none of them were "bad goals" per se but, as they say, nobody remembers the huge saves only the ones that you don't save. Frustrating, the team (and he) played terrific for exactly one period and then the whole shoot folded up like a cheap tent. For some reason this team simply won't play in front of this guy. Maybe it's time to trade him, if only for his sake...

Silovs is one thing, but they don't look good in front of him either.
This. It would be nice if he could start a game that wasn't the 2nd of back to back road games. Unlikely to happen now because the haters are going to have a field day with this one. Suggestions that they instead bring Topolino up instead made me giggle; it would be sooooo Canucks to call a guy up for his first NHL stint and then hand him 2 consecutive 2nd of back to back road games where your best player is out/hurt and the team won't play defence in front of him. Artie has had one great game (already forgotton by everybody) and one bad one (much more of a team loss) so far and he's tough so I'm hoping that he gets an easy game somewhere down the line and he excells. Of course that didn't work with Demko...

I painfully agree. The haul we could get for him from some teams would be worth starting a new rebuild, especially if we unburden ourselves of Petey, Boeser and Demko for useable assets. We have a solid goalie in place and a few decent placeholders, noiw we need to cut out the deadwood and get grittier. Hoping we start very soon but we shall see...

You could pay me 100k and I’d be out there busting my balls every single shift. People are frustrated because he plays like he doesn’t care. How can one person blow donkey balls since May 2024?

It’s like he scammed us. Played one good season to cash in. Now he has his retirement contract he’s more concerned about his upcoming fashion career.

Which won’t happen with that forehead and hair line.

It's an interesting take but Aqua would never sanction this.

The only year Hughes would have been eligible for trade protection was the last year of his deal, which I'm honestly kind of surprised he doesn't.

I think the whole meme of "Hughes is taking off to New Jersey as soon as possible" or to a lesser extent "Brock is from Minnesota so he's obviously going there as soon as possible" are completely overblown.

Hockey players are fiercely loyal (in an honestly sort of weird kind way) to teams that drafted them, believed in them, developed them, committed money to them, made them captain etc. Regardless of where they're from or other circumstances.

I think he'll re-sign in Vancouver, as long as the team is showing the smallest inclination of chasing success.

I'm a little confused by something. Natural Stat Trick also has Hoglander & Pettersson on the ice for one offensive zone faceoff each. If they were on the ice for an offensive zone faceoff, wouldn't that mean they were on the ice for an offensive zone start?

It was a faceoff on the PP, so not even strength.

I'm looking at even strength only numbers. Both Hoglander had 0 offensive zone starts but had 1 offensive zone faceoff. It sounds like NST might be, to me, a little weird with how they track zone starts. Like if Pettersson's start his shift in the neutral zone. Got a whistle in the offensive zone and stayed out for the faceoff, they wouldn't count that as an offensive zone start.
