Tonight’s Game
  • Didn’t connect on a 2-on-1 and also missed on a breakaway
  • Anaheim then countered with a rush game
  • Canucks’ players decided to abandon the game plan
  • Need some guys to rise to the occasion; whether that’s a middle drive; going to the net; had shots on net where no one was going to the net
  • A little disappointed in the grit part of their game
  • Have guys standing at the side of the net and that won’t win hockey games
  • They kinda gave in
  • Hope the players don’t think they can rest on a 2-0 lead in the 1st period
  • Are a desperate hockey team and need to stick to the game plan
  • Had too many guys that, instead of going straight, went right or left; too much perimeter play
  • Had talked about how to defend the rush and defended it wrong

I get th feeling that Toc is losing the room.

why did with 8 minutes to go he suddenly look like he was shot out of a cannon. Like what the F were you waiting for?

Rick always says all the right things and the on ice product never changes or seems to improve.

Idk what's up with that.
He’s a damn good defensive coach but I find some of his messages offensively contradicting

Wants them to hold onto pucks(presumably to wait for net traffic) but wants more shots to get through. Also says don’t miss the net which can also make a player gun shy to shoot.

Says he doesn’t want guys afraid to make plays but says the team needs to manage the puck well.

As a player I’d find that a bit confusing

I don't know if I've ever been angrier at a player than I am at Elias Pettersson.
I think a lot of us feel you on that one. I keep saying to myself "Tonight will be the game he breaks out". Not only does it never happen, it seems like Pettersson's give a f@#k's are gone as if he's checked out. Tonight it looked as if he gave up.

I'm sorry but I am finding it tiresome. A change of scenery might be best for all parties involved.

First caller to the Sportsnet 650 post-game show, makes a valid point. Right now the Canucks don't have a number-one center or even a number one line.

Sad but true. Pettersson, Blueger, Suter and even Chytil are playing closer to third line centers. Chytil might be a second-line center on a bad team, but not in NY, where he was definitely the third-line center.

You can't win in this league without strength down the middle. They had it last year. But now it's gone--probably for good.

Literallt said this in the GDT. I have started to get visibly upset every time he’s on the ice. Eriksson was the last time I’ve had this sort of upsetfulness.

At least with Eriksson I had tempered expectations. Pettersson has backslid in every single way, it’s unimaginable, and he’s one of the highest paid players in the league.

Doesn’t matter what changes they make to the roster, spending 11.6 on a boat anchor will sink you.

How I feel watching us this year:

Defense got better after the roster composition changed.

I don't think it's worth discussing coaching when the guy just won a jack adams, was handling the teams offense for team canada a week ago, and the players love him... including the captain who 24h ago just glowingly reviewed him.

He's short three top six forwards right now. What's going on makes sense to me. If we had Terry and Horvat and 2023 ep up front, we'd look at things so differently.

If we ranked our forwards right now, without even looking at the rest of the league, i'm going to guess we have a bottom 5 group.

Wonder if Carolina would be willing to come back to the table if they're stuck with an unsigned Rantanen in a few days

That's cause they are all number two.

Let's go, Allvin. A trade tomorrow for top 6 help can't come soon enough for me.

Question: is Tolopilo any worse than Silovs right now? Asking for a friend.

Quit blaming Tocc the whole core has been rotten outside of 43 and Garland

What a stupid trade for M.Pettersson and O'Connor this team should have kicked off the retool and shut down or traded E.Pettersson to have any chance of being a good team.

Pettersson is such a joke you cant even pair him with Boeser and expect anything. Yet here we are fighting each other over guesswork medical analysis while he plays in 4 Nations and B2Bs

Makes you wonder if he has a deeper underlying medical condition or he has decided to just pout his way out of town because he's mad at Tocchet and Alvin for hurting his feelings. Who fuxxing knows

Optics are just awful. I would be happy with Cozens at this point (doubtful Buffalo even does that) to just get rid of the never ending drama and the fact his body is not built for the grind of the NHL and i fully expect this to happen over and over and it's incredibly painful to watch your top paid guy get rag dolled by pretty much anyone who can bench 150lbs

This guy is *not* going to look like his old self until he gets a full healthy off-season of training, and expecting otherwise is going to leave you extremely disappointed for the next 23 games.

He is so clearly a step behind, that even when he puts his head down and is skating hard to get back, he is still nowhere close to most nhlers. His lateral movement and shiftiness that opened lanes is completely gone.

Even lazy, checked out players have occasional bursts of speed and cut through defenses, I don't think this is pure laziness or lack of effort, I think he *physically* cannot do what he used to.

I'm not even trying to make excuses for him, it is what it is.

Tocchet sounded totally deflated on the post-game presser.....said he was particularly disappointed with the team's 'grit-factor'.

"We needed somebody to make a play"....and let his voice trail off. If Allvin and the coach end up talking in the next couple of days, it'll be a very interesting conversation.

I just keep hearing complaints from Tocchet after every loss. "The team didn't do what I wanted them to do". Well I've got new for you: It's your job to explain or teach your players how to execute your plans. You've been saying the same things for a year straight now. Either you've completely lost the room or you aren't explaining to the players how they should play. Surely not all the players on the team are too dumb to follow instructions? Even if that was the case, you'd have to simplify your game plan then.
