Today’s Practice

• Was a great practice today, especially considering the time off
• Great to see Hughes on the ice; he looked good today

Demko

• Won’t travel on the road trip
• Is a lower body injury
• Doesn’t know a timeline

Juulsen

• Evaluating a lower body injury
• Doesn’t think he will travel on the road trip either

Joshua

• Left practice early but was pre-arranged; had an appointment to go to
• Will be back on the ice tomorrow
• Is healthy and ready to go

Hughes’ Decision

• You don’t know what it means to play for your country until you get the opportunity
• Usually when you get a chance to win, the fans in road cities aren’t going to cheer you on
• Was a tough decision but made a great decision for the Canucks; is a leader for this team
• It hurts but he made the right decision

Canada vs USA at the 4 Nations

• The opening fights were good for the game; nice to see the rivalry keeps going

Canucks’ Goaltending

• Will see Silovs
• Not sure if Lankinen is coming to Vancouver or meeting them in Vegas; was confirmed he’s going to Vegas
• Lankinen needs a little bit of a break

Hughes Non-Contact Jersey in Practice

• They are hoping he’s ready for Saturday’s game
• Today was a big day and he took contact
• Have two more practices for him to up the physicality
• Took him out at the end of practice; lots of 2-on-2 and 3-on-3
• Hughes wanted to sneak in for the end drills

Defensive Petterssons

• Young Petey, still trying to figure out his nickname, brings a lot; has the power and is so young; excited to see how much stronger he will get
• Young Petey will go through some bumps in his development but, right now, is playing explosive and is a fun guy to teach
• Marcus Pettersson brings a veteran presence; is a true professional
• Marcus is a good guy for the group because he’s always talking and engaged on the bench; his communication will really help the team a lot

Resting Veterans

• Not sure where they are at as a group with health
• If they are healthy will look at maybe resting a veteran in a back-to-back

M. Pettersson & O’Connor Re-Signing

• Is a great sign that they both extended
• Likes the presence and consistency of Pettersson
• O’Connor is a big body with speed that can hold onto pucks

Defensive Alignments

• Haven’t talked to Rick about defensive pairs
• Really great the Myers has done a great job with both Hughes & Pettersson
• Really liked Hronek’s last two games
• Have more depth to make different adjustments depending on match-ups
• Players have done a great job being split up

Silovs

• There’s ups & downs in development
• Sometimes things pop up and you just learn to deal with it

Resetting the Season

• Won three in a row right before the break
• Thought practice today was really focused on breaking out as a unit
• Want to jump right where they left off
• Have three days to get the cobwebs out
• Tocchet’s message to the players was to execute and practice the right way
