It means nothing because they don’t engage like that in actual games.
It's not a drill looking at engagement.

This is a drill that is specifically looking at one thing....when the puck is moved do you know where the f*** you are supposed to go to maintain proper defensive positioning. Because it is obvious this team hasn't got a clue. This team gets easily beat on cross ice passes because their positioning is not sound to begin with and their adjustments when the puck is moved is even worse.

The engagement drills will look at taking direct lines instead of long looping turns that just give the opposition space.

These are the specific things Tocchet mentioned in his post-game comments last night. If the players don't want to be coached like they are playing pee wee hockey they know what they need to do.

This actually looks like a decent practice drill, Canucks need to learn to be aggressive on the sides and blue line when defending, For the past 3-5 years, they just collapse and let the opposing team move the puck around in their zone.

It's bad habits like these that cause them to have defensive breakdowns, it always baffled me because you see other 'bad' teams still be aggressive when defending.

The original message was about Hughes shoving with Joshua and not about the peewee defense drill. But yeah this team is a mess.

This team since probably about 2016 have been nothing more than a country club atmosphere. The entitlement, laziness from some players rubs a lot of people and the fans the wrong way.

These players know where they should but they get lost in game when the puck and players moving about. I question whether they will be able to translate thinking in controlled drills into thinking during chaos.

Nothing else seems to be working so it can't hurt.

Tocchet in the post-game interview essentially called the the players dumb and lazy, albeit in nicer terms. It's certainly hard to argue with that given how they've played this year.

Where TF do you get this from?

Like, reasonable, factual happenings that lead to this conclusion?

(If it's a lil scuffle at practice, how does that equal "laziness and entitlement?")

I still remember Darcy Rota (only recently scoring 40+ goals in a season) having to go thru Bill LaForge's "Pride, Hustle, and Desire" drills (Bill called them "P.H.D." for short). It's where Rota suffered a bad injury that ended up shortening his career.

It's striking how at odds Boudreau's style was to what Tocchet is bringing. This situation really illustrates why GMs need to be able to pick their own coach.

DailyHive: Quinn Hughes and Connor Garland viciously attack Dakota Joshua. Appears to be hate crime.
i cant believe they would do that on the heels of black history month celebrations?

Must have made a couple short jokes

Seems pretty much hammer hitting nail to me?

Good then they should be able to correct things. This is simply being called out by the coaching staff and bringing them back to basics. As I said, if they don’t want that “embarrassment” in practice they know what to do. I would also argue that there is hundreds of game of evidence at this point that suggests a lot of them don’t know where to be or how to adjust or at the very least don’t feel embarrassment.

I can picture Garland on Hughes shoulders trading shots at even height with Joshua...

At this point we might as well assume that the players have no clue where to be. I mean they haven't shown that they know considering how often shit breaks down.
