His only minus in 11 games now was the Toffoli goal assisted by Chytil in a 6 on 5 goalie pull. No even up minuses. At about 18 minutes a night. D zone starts, etc. And PK. He’s not coming out of the lineup.
Not even sure what the ideal pairings would be when Hughes is back because the current ones are working so well. Seeing this from Hronek really makes me want to keep him on his own pairing, but MPetey-Myers has been so good as a shutdown pair so who do you pair with Hughes? And, Forbort has been solid while D-Petey has been a revelation at both ends of the rink…

My concern with him is he’s mental toughness, he shut down for a year on us. He had a good game but I need to see him build of that and be that 11.6 million dollar player. He’s trending the right way after this one game
Impossible to not have concerns even after tonight. But without tonight it was looking bleak. Like damnation to the depths. That is no longer the case. There is genuine hope to replace the methadone like hopium many of us have been clinging to.

have we ever seen hughes - soucy?

that’s three pairs you can just roll:

hughes soucy
mp3 myers
ep2 hronek

and when you are pressing you just seap soucy and hronek

One thought that came to mind-- while obviously he needs to consistently play better, the expectations people have for Pettersson seem a bit odd to me. From the way people talk, it's like they're thinking "He makes 11.6 million, therefore he needs to take the bull by the horns and completely take over games and dominate," but even in his peak 100+ point Selke-worthy season (which is what warranted that contract), since his initial major injuries forced him to change the way he played, he's never really been the type of player to "take over games" even at the best of times. At his best, he was still more of a "quietly do the right things all over the ice and make enough clever/subtle offensive plays that he somehow ends up with 3-5 points" kind of guy.

This game... pretty much looked like that, in my opinion. He could have easily had 2-3 points and was great defensively. Just need to see it consistently.

Watching Elias Pettersson II on the blueline, count me as being absolutely gob-smacked. I mean where did this kid come from? No way anybody could have predicted he'd be so good, so fast.

He's reminding me of a young Oliver Ekman-Larsson, during his salad days in Arizona. How can you take him out of the lineup?

To me, unless it's a mirage, D-Petey is one of the most encouraging things about this season so far.
Agreed. Too bad he's going back to Abbotsford once Hughes is back. Because I don't think Tocchet is benching Forbort.

hronek has always been good, it's just that now people don't get to watch quinn outplay him
Well, this season, anyways. Early in the year, he was better than Hughes, for my money (especially defensively). The second half of last season and in the playoffs, he wasn't at this level, though.

D.Pettersson is almost for sure coming out when Hughes is back and you’ll probably run Forbort-Soucy as the bottom pair pre-Willander.

I agree with the other posters that they should first leave the other two pairings alone and just slot Hughes beside Soucy to see if that works. Exciting times ahead.

let's hope it is like this

Remember when Drance was shaking his head and crying because we went out and traded for a 25 year old top 4 RD?

The legend of Filip Hronek grows. We really got our right-shot #2 D for the next decade in exchange for a mid first and second.

What a home run deal and signing. That 7.25M cap hit is going to look so good in a couple years. We really did our own version of Devon Toews. Great job from Allvin and co.
