Post-Game Talk: [GM51] Canucks lose to Stars | 3-5 | Garland, DeBrusk, & Soucy | Hughes Hurt, Season Over

Probably the worst coaching game Tocchet has had since he got to Vancouver. Basically threw this game for the team.
- Lankinen should have been in net
- It was clear Hoglander was one of the only forwards going, should have been bumped up to play with Garland who was like the only other forward trying
- More Soucy - Juulsen when they obviously suck

Probably could have won this game if one of the penalties that drew blood was called but that's NHL reffing for you.

Welcome to the Pettersson era. 25 million dollar 1st line with zero offensive pop until the garbage time goal. Underlying stats say they controlled the play but that isn't really going to cut it. No team will succeed in this league without game-breaking type talent on forward.

Hughes tried to do way too much and did not play well for the first two periods and then looked obviously injured in the 3rd. At this point it's obvious the season has been punted on by management so it doesn't even really matter how much time he misses.

Would not be surprised if Boeser is out the door by the deadline. Looks like we're going to get major surgery.

Tonight’s Game
  • Proud of the team and thought they played really well
  • That’s a good hockey team over there
  • Kept the Stars to a low amount of shots
  • Special teams decided the game but for the most part the guys played hard
Miller Trade
  • It’s a business; when you’re in the business long enough there will be things like that
  • ...snip

Atta guy coach, atta guy

Team played well enough to win but were undone by poor goaltending on their end and (when it counted) good goaltending by Oettinger.

Good effort by Hoglander. Probably his best game of the season. Looked Garland-like in his determination and speed. Would be fantastic if he could somehow emerge as a player like Garland. Bits and pieces of his game are similar although he lacks the overall speed of Garland.

Heinen with his usual lack of involvment. Just never worked here at all. Really there should be an internal probe of the team in terms of who advised what. Anyone linked to some of these signings last off-season needs to be quickly axed.

Soucy staggered thru another one. Outside of the one goal he got best wide, Juulsen was decent but that pairing is not NHL level ATM

Petterssen line was brutal stats-wise but some of that due to the EN moves. Line started well but never ended up getting enough done.

Myers with another good effort.

Joshua skated better which was encouraging.

If Hughes is hurt in any significant way Canuck management has to realize the jig's up for 2024 - 2025. Start playing youngsters, rest Hughes and , if you want to be cynical and finish higher in the draft lottery, let Demko continue to work on his game.

No worries kryten. Dont really care what you think on any given subject

In the post game interview, Hughes says he will see Miller in 7 days, insinuating he will be at the meme tournament. Management has to step in and tell him to heal and recover instead.
So we can win the cup this season?

Exhibit A as to why it was so f***ing stupid to sell low on Miller then use whatever's left to try to sneak into the playoffs. Had lots of gaps already and now there's a sinkhole down the middle that cannot be filled. With Demko looking like he's no longer his old self, it'll be a miracle to get into the playoffs with Pettersson scoring at a 60 points clip and what will be a rotating cast of grinders as our 2C.

The whole Gary Mason leak shtick and the Rutherford interview screams ownership interference leading to all these panicked, nearsighted moves. Feels like Rutherford is happy to play the Benning role, while Allvin either walks after his contract is up or just straight up gets fired as the fall guy down the road.

It was nice to have hope for 1 season.

That post-game interview Dan Murphy did with Quinn Hughes, was hard to watch.

I don't think I've ever seen him look so crushed and defeated. Obviously as the team captain, he took these dressing-room meltdowns on his own shoulders--much like he's carrying the team right now.

Dare I say it? What we're seeing is guy rapidly becoming a 'generational talent', if he isn't there already. Not to mention an automatic first ballot Hall of Famer if he stays healthy. Just a shame that it may not all happen in Vancouver.
