Caps look like the 2024 Canucks, can’t say I’m not expecting us to outplay them still

Tocchet has given interviews where hes said it. That Vegas stanley cup win must've blown his mind then, blueline full of lefties
I mean it was just 4 and 2, and I'm sure if we had someone like Theodore he wouldn't have a problem playing him on his off side.

Brannstrom is unfortunately no Theodore.

Edit: Brannstrom has not played well recently IMO but he do needs to get back in. None of the other guys are playing well enough to warrant a permanent spot. The issue is when you have a player that the coaches have pretty much already made their mind up on, he has to play perfect to stay in the lineup. His mistakes will always be highlighted but mistakes by the others will be glossed over.

The Caps are a unit this season. I see the Canucks losing soundly. They always struggled with the Caps to begin with.

Yes ive watched them a couple times lately and i think were in trouble. Especially if we get into penalty issues.

Their PP is on fire and is running a 8-4 goal advantage the last 8 games vs opposition

God I was nervous reading that cut off notification on my phone

“Patrik Alvin today announced that Filip Hronek is………..”

I was surprised Alvin announced that and just not a general announcement

So when the announcement came in I thought he was announcing surgery

Pettersson’s Status
  • Will talk to him after skating; game time decision
  • It’s how Pettersson feels and if he’s comfortable
Goaltending
  • Lankinen is starting
  • Demko is close; felt good last practice
  • Lankinen didn’t take the optional skate to manage his workload
Forbort
  • Game time decision
  • Brisebois or Brannstrom would replace him
Hoglander
  • Was close to a penalty on Hutson and when you’re close like that you can’t then do the next egregious thing
  • Hoglander should have switched with the other winger and be closer to the bench instead of staying on the weak side
  • Should have then changed or grabbed a stick
  • Next time it happens, hopefully he knows to do that
Coaching this Season
  • Has to stay calm
  • Team is making some mistakes
  • Last game, Canadiens had 6 shots halfway through; Canucks didn’t get the puck in deep, then made about 9 mistakes before the Canadiens score; Canucks didn’t do that last year
  • Questions if the mistakes are coming from injuries, or communication with coaches, or some guys are panicking; lots of different factors
  • Getting a little bit out of sorts
Alexander Ovechkin & Wayne Gretzky
  • Might be able to shut Wayne Gretzky down for a bit but he can do things other than score; Alexander Ovechkin is the same way in that you shut him down for a period or two but he’s hit 4 guys and gets into the game then scores
  • Ovechkin not afraid to go to the front of the net
Harder to Score Now?
  • There was a lot more holding and hooking
  • Can go to the inside a bit more knowing you won’t get cross-checked, hooked, and held
Washington Capitals
  • Every team is going through issues
  • Capitals are consistently playing their style every night
  • Are a bigger team that hang around the net and block a lot of shots
  • Squash plays down low; not a lot of time and space
  • Have acquired guys that play to their identity

To be fair, Desharnais is surprisingly decent on the PK. So I think that alone gives a longer runaway than he otherwise deserves. Soucy is straight up better than Brannstrom despite his inconsistencies this season. So it really comes down to Forbort or Brannstrom. There's pros and cons to both, but I do agree they need to let Brannstrom get in games.

Feel super sorry for Lankinen in this one, he's going to get shelled.

It'll basically be a 1v12 game.

Lankinen vs capitals, our own team, the ref, and the lines men.

At this point, I'm not sure why I'm even bothering to watch. Team in turmoil, can't defend, taking stupid penalties, have no game off the rush, and they give up their own blueline without any sort of fight.

5-1 caps
