I really feel bad for Lankinen, dude was treated like garbage in the off season. We picked him up and now he has to be the one to deal with this self-sabotaging defense.
The single biggest difference between this year’s team and last year’s team is goaltending. They had a .914 SV% on January 6 last year and have an .885 this year.
At the same SV% as last year they would have 31 fewer GA and probably 8-10 more points in the standings.

I wouldn't attribute that to "goaltending" insomuch as it is impossible to keep a high SV% when your defense can neither get the puck out or win battles against a skilled opponent.

I've seen similar stuff used in rehab setting, usually used to secure and stabilize various finger joints. In this case, it looks like the carpometacarpal joint and possible metacarpalphalangeal joints (latter is unlikely, as in the photo he seems to be bending those joints), aka joints at the knuckle where your palm ends and your tentacles begin.
I could be wrong though.

Sorry guys for posting shit..I'm just beyond frustrated with this team right now..if I said anything to offend anyone I apologize..
The Canucks have been near the top of the league both years in xGA and at limiting high danger chances against, so the available data says otherwise.
Lankinen has been fine (average-ish) and Silovs terrible, whereas Demko was elite and that amounts to a huge difference.
I can accept that people can see things otherwise on the magnitude of the effect but I can’t realistically see how the difference isn’t at least 4-5 points in the standings so far, and more likely more than less.

I think the biggest reason why management has done shit so far is because they want to toll cap. Not sure how much cap we have to make moves but a guesstimate would be like 2-3M? I imagine if we throw Desharnais away, we should have like 4-5M to use to make those moves. I think priority should be a LD that, throw like everything to get that guy.

I gotta say it again, nickel and diming Zadorov till he walked was stupid arrogant shit. Our D is an absolute disaster... and sitting Brannstrom for an extended period right now over guys like VD or Juulsen is just another terrible decision.
Can they try to get a decent Dman for someone like Boeser?

Not sure what game some people were seeing tonight, but based on the play, without Lankinen, the score is 7-4 and gets nowhere near OT.
You can't simply sit back, dump out pucks from your own zone and give up as many high-danger chances as the Canucks do, and expect to win. Even with Quinn Hughes back and probably playing at 80 percent--it's still one of the worst bluelines in the Western Conference.
Probably not much you can do about it this season---unless they trade Miller. But then the Canucks are down to a one-line team again.

Tie games are so stressful. Canucks need to legit survive for another extra 5 mins, because shootout is their best chance.

Letting Cole and Zadorov walk is a wise move if you have a formidable plan to upgrade or backfill the roles.
Letting Cole and Zadorov go and thinking Derek f***ing Forbort and Vinny Desharnais could fill those roles was insanely stupid.

Yeah, this game is a blowout without Lankinen. It felt like every scoring chance we had was in the net, while the Habs had twice as many high danger chances that could have been goals if Lankinen hadn’t been awesome. Sure it was Grant Fuhr esque game, but as he has on many nights, he gave us a shot.
It also needs to be said that when this team gets a lead, Tocchet bears an alarming similarity to Travis Green where his team just goes into turtle mode and tries to protect the lead for the rest of the game without stepping on the gas at all. It’s as much a recipe for disaster now as it was during Green’s reign.

I’m sorry, but this is infuriating. I don’t care what they say.
Playing him injured is such a joke, I don’t care if he wants to play.
This is not a small injury, you can literally see the cast on him.
Risking his future, and later on in this season for what?

We have Savard and Matheson available but we are lousy trade partners. You have nothing we need. Nor draft picks. We got 21 picks next 2 years. We need a young RHD and a young 2C.
Besides, given the last 10 games, those two may not be available anymore.

Nothing we do (trading a mid-1st) is going to change anything long-term but could get you a #3D.
Throwing this season and next away, you may as well tell Hughes to quit. Then you’re in a full rebuild anyways.
Tocchet is fond of saying that you have counter 'pressure' with 'pressure'. When you're under siege, somebody has to make play.
Two or three passes, and you're out of your zone and turning the tables with an offensive zone forecheck. Problem is, nobody not names Hughes, can make a six-foot pass. It's off the glass or off the boards and out---and then the other team comes right back at you.
Looking at all the recent third period collapses in Utah, twice against Seattle, and tonight, it's the same story. Blown leads are all about having no execution and a high panic threshold.
So much offense depends on orderly d-zone exits.....and this blueline is almost completely inept.

It’s shocking how terrible he’s been. He doesn’t show any urgency when he’s out. Just sort of out for a skate and then back to the bench.
Flubbed the clear and then just let his guy camp out in front for the screen.
Hard to watch.
