Honestly it's completely absurd how they have handled Protas.

Finding him in the first place, developing him at the right pace, locking him in to that team-friendly contract before he fully blossomed... insane.

and grabbing his brother with knowledge of what they thought Big Pro was about to become

I just want to see Big Pro do it for a season and a half ... but he's looking friggin awesome atm

Don't forget coming up to me he looked better as a center before blossum time so there is still some undiscovered positional flexibility here.

Great W. Great game overall.
Chuckie, feeling bad and making huge saves

JC74 climb another step into a disallowed goals.
Before they were just disallowed with one review. No it takes 2.

Protas is also on pace for 69 points
what would be the best result in history when it comes to Belarusian NHL players. Sharango last year and Grabo back in days had something around 60 points seasons IIRC

Didn't watch last night, just watched the 10 minute version... 2 notes..

Protas .. yeah. Not only his deflection (while being a screen), but his screen on the McMichael goal. I wish they gave assists for those, in my book he had a 1+1 night regardless of the box score.

On the Vrana goal .. A, he's still got that lethal shot... but B, and really my main takeaway ... I loved loved loved how he celebrated, seemingly calling out Lappy (giving the "great setup!" point and shout). I have no idea what he was thinking of course, but I didn't see anything particularly special about the transition and pass, aside from allowing Jake to take it in stride. My first thought from this is that he was pumping up Jimi, helping him feel good, giving him confidence. Obviously don't know if that was intentional or not, but it would be the kind of thing the kid likely needs. Would be a big veteran "been there, done that, had my struggles, you're good, just don't forget it" kind of mentoring move from Vrana. Probably inferring wrongly, but I like to think it.

A third note (My xNF% algorithm needs some work) ... every time I see Chuckie in a locker room clip I can't believe the guy is a professional athelete with his relative lack of upper body strength. I've never really paid much attention to goalies before, but I can't recall seeing (m)any other NHL goalies as skinny as him. IIRC Holtby and Kolzig were both pretty big, solid, guys. Can't remember others.

Chuckie does not look like an athlete! Haha. But damn sure is!

Love to see Lappy getting going. It was a great lead pass to Jake. Both of those guys played less than 7 minutes though.

Protas is starting to get in victory lap territory, even I can't believe it but this is almost exactly the guy that I thought he could be. Shades under a point per game but responsible in all phases and adding tools to his repertoire. Both his skating and his hands seem better than they were, his IQ was already excellent, and now his willingness to take the game over and make those extra pushes to be effective is there.

He's a freak and I've said time after time that it seems like younger brothers are stress tested into being good by honing themselves against the bigger guy. If his brother turns out to be the "talented" one we're running two more borderline unicorns.

Probably unlikely, but Ilya is showing up and pacing for his brother's best WHL season right now and with more goal scoring touches... wouldn't that be something?
Ok, just fantasizing a bit here, but imagining a top six of PRO-PLD-PRO, then CMM-Stromer-Willy, with Lenny holding down a 3rd line that gets real minutes, or up top with Little Pro down lower. That shit is going to be a nightmare to play against. That top line would be huge, the second line would be fast and pesky.

I wish they'd give Protas power play time. He has a grand total of 2:49 of PP time this year despite being one of their most talented forwards. Only Duhaime has less time among their regular forwards.
Yeah, imagine those screens on the PP, along with the puck retrieval.

Yeah, I can understand not wanting to put too much in Protas’ plate, but he’s proving to be such a valuable piece that I think he does deserve PP time. Especially with how good he is at using his stick to disrupt outlets from the opponents, it could really help in keeping zone time up. Him in front of the net for screens/tips and then his retrieval skills to collect lose pucks could be massive.

Never thought Protas could be this good.

So I looked at some Protas stats. Amongst forwards, Tied for 6th in ice time, tied for first in plus/minus. tied for second points per game. There is headroom on minutes and would probably lead in P/PG with a couple minutes of PP time night. Count me in as someone who would like to see that!
