Why is it that we have to dump and chase every possession yet the team we’re playing gets to waltz across the blueline with impunity? It’s the worst aspect of Tocchet’s system (and I like Tocchet)
After what the Sabres gave up to get him, it would cost us a lotIt would honestly make my Christmas to wake up and see the Canucks acquired Byram tomorrow.
100% agree….Is anyone else irrationally irritated by those "You need to visit the USA" commercials where Sportsnet hosts are selling out to promote travel outside of their own country?
Maybe it's just me...
The lack of puck movement is at once a model issue and a personnel issue. If your coach accepts negative shot differential and is risk averse to inner ice passing, he will defer to glass-and-out trees and rely on high conversion rates to save him. Granted, it worked last year... Until it didn't against the Oilers.
It's because their ceiling is lowered by the controlled system the play. Tocchet wants rush chances, sure, but he's not willing to accept to the risks to get it (Brannstrom's creativity). It's fine if all you want to do is control for your floor. As in, stay in games. But if you want to get the cup, you need shot generation. Tocchet's model isn't providing this.
This has been a theme and why they can't generate the rush chances Tocchet is looking for. First, their D can't pass the puck up, which then has the forwards come further back than they would like for the pass or start further back when they get the puck, which then has them claw through the neutral zone instead of catching a puck in stride.
I think they're also coached to get the puck deep if it's 50/50, and other teams encourage holding onto the puck.
Petterssons AHL linemate decides to shoot a muffin into the pads instead of feed him a pass
Smart play honestly, Tocchet will reward that decision with more icetime.

He needs a good 20 games to really get into his groove. Not ideal as a 6/7 Dman, really.Juulsen has surprisingly been playing well the past few games. I can tell because I'm not cursing his name 4xs per game.

@SopelFanThe3rdPetey with some slick moves but no one gets the tip
