If he had managed to pull off the rumored deal of Necas, Kotkaniemi, a 1st rounder and another top prospect (Morrow?) for Pettersson, he would look like a top 5 GM in the league right now.

And they easily could've signed Zadorov at 5M instead of Myers at 3M. Zadorov isn't having a great season but for 2M more, he would be a massive upgrade over Myers.

He just as easily could have looked like a complete moron if Pettersson went on to score 100+ points in Carolina. We also have no idea how legitimate that rumor was. Necas never showed he had another step like this either. It was a risk no matter what he did but it's hard to bet against an existing 100 point player over hoping the guy you acquire becomes one.

As for Zadorov. My bigger complaint here isn't that we allowed him to walk but rather replaced him with nothing. They went for the "by community" approach but seemingly vastly overestimated our players. I suspect they thought Juulsen would take a step and that Soucy was a legit 3-4.

Tocchets lost the room and all the facts are there to prove it.

Where are these facts exactly? Literally three days ago they flattened the defending cup champs and everything was sunshine and roses. One bad game later and they "gave up" on the coach? Come on.

Dismal is putting it mildly. Without Hughes, the D they dressed is in the bottom third or quarter in the NHL, at best. Clearly can't win with that.

As if it wasn't obvious

Good god were Brannstrom and Friedman dreadful. Any hope either one of them could swap to the right should be more or less dashed after last night. I know it's only one game but neither has looked great beforehand, particularly Brannstrom.

Bit surprised to see Blueger down in the dumpster.

Heinen, Hoglander, Desharnais, Soucy

Looks like this was a good one to miss. My son crushed it at his high school play, although the highlight was one of the singing Santa’s pants falling down during a big musical number. That was probably still more entertaining than this game would have been.

Nice to see Sasson score his first. Pity it came in a stinker, but awesome to see an undrafted kid score his first NHL goal on home ice.

Sasson has been excellent and deserves to stay in the lineup. He's another Sherwood.

There's some weird stuff happening behind the scenes with this team

Mopey Petey's disappearing act
Miller's mysterious absence with Elliott saying "his teammates need to bend and he needs to bend"
Tocchet appearing to get more and more frustrated every game and now saying some guys aren't emotionally invested
So many games the team just gives absolutely no effort, doesn't follow instructions, and just free skates however the F they please. That NEVER happened last year - it was balls out and adhering to the system almost every game

Other teams have crap D too and they still win (see: Oilers)
Wonder if it's less of a hockey issue and more an indication of some major off-ice issues
Exactly this. Don't understand how a vast majority here don't see something very very wrong in the room. Tocchet is the head coach. This is his responsibility. It's up to him to fix it!

I think Tocchet's job is safe. The team is 8th in the west with games in hand on basically everyone chasing them and ahead of them. The circumstances of the season and the hand he's been dealt, would another coach have them any better?

Yes there's been some games they've started flat, roster decisions i don't agree with, and some weird funk filling up the locker room but Tocchet is their guy and I think he's got a lot more leash.

He ain't going anywhere anytime soon. He has time to fix this. But he better get his act together soon for his own sake as well as ours lol.
