Last year was our peak. We thought we needed to find a top 4 piece but ultimately we are short a 2nd pairing. Myers is at the end stage of his career and Soucy has had one of the worst drop offs I've seen by a Canuck blueliner.

It's just too much to overcome. Hold onto the picks and maybe try and ship out Myers and Soucy.

Hard disagree, you trade picks and just move the contracts bring in new guys. The core is still in it's mid twenties.

Biggest issue last season was there was nobody to provide challenge for Myer's spot. Same problem this season. Desharnais can't, but IMO he wasn't a guy who we would be moving up the lineup this season.

So basically Myers always plays and is put into key situations for no reason. He f***s up Soucy who is not playing well either. We have nobody we can slot in for either of them.

Personally I would put Brannstrom on the 2nd pair but he's LHS so that's probably not going to work. But I think we HAVE to try. Honestly I'd love to see Brannstrom/Soucy even if they're both lefty.

I think the loss of Cole has also been underestimated. Soucy-Myers was bad last year too. Cole-Myers was much better and even Juulsen looked passable playing with Cole, at least during the regular season.

rentals are brutal.

Yeah that sucked but unlike the Benning era at least we didn't double down on a bad decision by signing him. He's not exactly lighting the world on fire in Boston either.

I remember after July 1st free agency I turned on NHL 24 and updated the roster. Loved the look of the freshly added forwards. I started a game and edited my lines, turned it to the defense saw Hughes, Hronek, Myers, Soucy, Desharnais and Forbort on defense. Said to myself "Nope" and turned the gamed off.

Cole was a net positive until the playoffs, IMO that was a unfortunate for him considering he had been a stabilizing force for most of the season.
