I honestly think it’s time for us to be a little proactive here and find a top four defenceman right now and not wait.

We did that with zadorov, I think we might have to do it even sooner this time around.

There’s some really intriguing names, lots in Buffalo, detroit, and even penguins.

Because we have a huge problem, Desharnais needs to be replaced, super nice guy, but he’s struggling like soucy.

Myers and quinn have been our best so far.
Hronek has been pretty good

Lekkerimaki
  • Has progressed at a really high level in the AHL
  • Has been told that he’s making the little plays without the puck
  • Was sent to the AHL to round out his game
  • Can make a play under pressure, great shot, and thinks the game
  • Is excited to see how he plays
  • Biggest challenge for him will be consistency every night and in practice
  • Recall has nothing to do with the cap
  • Would have been called up 2 days ago but tweaked something
  • Certain times where they want a guy to come up, get a taste of the NHL, and see where he’s at
  • His play will determine if he stays up
Boeser
  • No update today; has not talked to the doctor
Silovs
  • Probably recalled on Monday
  • Will play in the AHL tonight
  • Needed to get him in a game
Lankinen
  • Has played 6 in a row; needs to monitor his workload
  • Playing this much is uncharted waters for him
Demko
  • Today was progress
  • Was in there with the action
  • Won’t back-up on Tuesday
  • Wasn’t 100% in the practice
Hughes
  • Maintenance day
  • Going to monitor his ice time; perfect day to get him a day off
Raty
  • Has seen improvement
  • Last night, saw some really good shifts
  • Is working on the things they asked him to work on when he was sent to the AHL
  • Decision making has improved
  • Loves that he is going 100% all the time
  • Is sometimes all-in on everything and is learning when to dial it back
  • Reading plays a little better
Joshua
  • Thought he looked good today
  • Will talk to him today or tomorrow and see where he’s at
  • Not sure if he’ll play Tuesday or goes to Abbotsford for a conditioning stint
  • Will make the decision soon
11 Forwards, 7 Defencemen
  • Doesn’t want to have 11 forwards and 7 defencemen again
  • Tried it last night; thinks it’s the first time in his career he’s done it
  • A lot of teams do it and depends on certain circumstances
  • Probably wouldn’t do it again soon
  • Not saying he wouldn’t ever do it but usually likes a 12/6 roster
Front of the Net
  • Sometimes it’s bad bounces and sometimes it’s technique
  • Has told his defencemen that they are getting in the habit of puck watching
  • When there’s a scramble, find the body first then the puck; right now are concentrating on where the puck is
  • Let the goalie handle finding the puck
  • Shouldn’t be bottom-third in the league

The hope was that LA or Calgary would start off horribly. The names of interest are on those teams, and they are not selling until they are fully out of the playoff picture.

Matheson?

In the last 7 games the Canucks have dressed Juulsen, they are 0-6-1, and he's -7.

I knew he was bad, but holy crap that is next level awful.

Not sure about Lekk getting called up this soon, seems a bit premature before he’s fully rounded out his game in Abby.

Nice to see Demko continue to progress, they need him back soon to take the load of Lankinen a little bit as Silovs can’t really be trusted at the moment.

If we could acquire a Tanev like RHD - preferably a stay at home that can take Soucy off the PK - we could roll out something like this;

Hughes - RHD
Soucy - Hronek
Brannstrom - Myers

I don’t think that would be so bad.

that would be perfect, but who, how much will we have to give up, and what will he cost against the cap?

with this setup, myers plays within himself because brannstrom does the puck moving. whereas currently, myers tries to do too much with the puck and aoucy goes out of his way to push the offense to keep myers from doing it.

A big issue is timing. Canucks are on pace to have between 5-6m in cap space close to the deadline. Could accommodate an incoming cap number by sending out Desharnais/Forbort. If Hoglander is part of the package that’s another 1.1m. Pay extra for retention. There are ways to make the cap work.
