Yeah, if he was THE fastest it would be like 'wow, that's pretty cool' but this whole race to see whether he could beat Paul Coffey to 3rd place in this stat that nobody had ever heard of before a couple weeks ago was just odd.
It was talked about extensively when he actually was the fastest to 200 wasn't it?

This is art.
let's turn this beautiful painting into the Sistine MF Chapel:

Strong performance. First 10 minutes were a little wobbly but we absolutely destroyed a crappy Anaheim team for the last 50 minutes.

The whole Pettersson/Hughes goal thing was super weird. Pettersson didn't appear to touch it, didn't celebrate, didn't lead the handshake line. Like, is he so broken he doesn't even try to claim what would be a big goal for him now? Or did the team just manage to successfully argue for him to get a charity goal to boost his confidence? So strange.

Hughes was just unbelievable last night. One of the most dominant games of his career, was just everywhere and looked like he was playing an AHL team.

That said, am I the only one that thinks '3rd fastest D to 300 assists' is kind of a weird/meaningless thing and who didn't get the big fuss made about it?

Sherwood-Blueger-Heinen are basically performing like an elite 2nd line. Heinen is such a weird player - absolutely nothing pops in terms of the eye test but he's just always in the right places at both ends of the rink and has plus hands when scoring opportunities arise around the net.

Thought Pettersson was poor again aside from doing a couple decent things on the PP. Saw 3 separate occasions where he was favoured to win a puck race and then just stopped skating and conceded the play.

Miller's line was solid, if not spectacular. Miller against Anaheim's kids in the faceoff circle was just unfair.

Hoglander showed some more jump and pushback in this game after a series of pretty insipid performances. More of that, please.

Desharnais had a better game, don't remember a case of the play getting behind him which has been his big problem. Another strong game for Brannstrom.

Soucy was horrible in the 1st but I thought the last 40 minutes was maybe the best he's looked this season aside from one dumb penalty.

Lankinen rock solid again. Best value contract in the NHL right now.
If you look at the slow motion replay it was deflected and changed direction and touched Petterson stick.

With you attach that many conditions in an achievement, it's not an achievement.

Granted, in this case, it is still tolerable, somewhat. Also most of the times you don't see media pay much attention to our team anyways, as they are usually too busy salivating over what kind of boiled vegetable McDavid had for lunch and how many slices of pepperonis are on Matthews' pizza.

So let's just settle for a "Hughes, great work, woo."

that was a decent game against a terribad team.

props to hughes. it's a slightly obscure stat but an impressive one. leetch played ncaa and was 20 the same age as hughes his first full season.

heinen and sherwood are starting to sprout wings.

Yes, and probably most games we can pick a 10-minute stretch that wasn't great. After that it was a comprehensive. dominant victory in pretty much every way.

5-1 is a result that was expected, but not always delivered, so the team got it together last night. I'm so grateful to have Lankinen, who continues to be stellar.

Major kudos to Hughes. The significance of his achievement of being the 3rd fastest d-man to reach 300 assists should not be downplayed. It's another indicator, a measurement of who he is - the MVP of this team. Where would we be without him?

He's not just a Canuck star, he's an NHL star.

Agreed. The stat is an indication of who he’s currently keeping pace with and that is some exclusive company!

Fastest d-man to 300 assists, other than Leetch and Orr.......Hughes is on track for an HOF career and just turned 25, so he's really just getting started.

He's going to be something to watch going forward, no matter what the Canucks eventually do on the ice.

I think they keep mentioning Hughes achievements to brag about him and the company he's keeping, Orr, Leetch, Coffey etc.

(And maybe a smidge of little brother syndrome. )

How lucky are we with Brannstrom? He fell in to our lap and everyone else told us he stinks; but here we are with a really good 3rd pairing puck mover 8 games later. Lack of PK utility is really the only knock. Down the stretch and after the trade deadline he will be a great depth defenseman.
At this point I have complete confidence with our pro scout, they’ve hit a lot of good shots.
