I'd definitely start Lankinen again but the way some people have turned on Silovs is crazy.

I really hope Myers' knee gets better quickly because it's clearly affecting his mobility right now.

would love to see them try the following:

pettersson - miller - boeser
hoglander - blueger - garland
debrusk - suter - heinen
bains - aman - sherwood

hughes - desharnais
soucy - hronek
brannstrom - myers

lankinen
silovs

get petey going. reduce hronek's minutes, see what hughes can do with a different partner. blueger and garland are absolutely playing at a second line level right now, reward them with more minutes - switch out hog and debrusk as needed.

Both are more than capable goalies, like the consistent rotation between the two, keeps them fresher and less likely to get injured, kind of like pitcher rotation in baseball.

Saying the kid just isn't ready for a full time stint isn't "turning on him." It's acknowledging exactly that: he just isn't ready yet.

Silovs had a ton of trouble against Edmonton, after playing amazing against Nashville.

Bouchard and Ekholm had him completely figured out.

Agreed, Hoglander and Garland both need top 6 minutes as they are hustling every shift.

Get Bains and Heinen into the bottom 6 where they belong. DeBrusk makes way too much to play down there for the whole season, but putting him with Suter-Heinen gives us a solid scoring 3rd line.

Once Joshua is back, reunite the Thirst Line.

I think a lot of us (myself included) got way ahead of ourselves on a guy with 9 sub-.900 career games and a fairly pedestrian AHL record when he had a couple very good playoff games.

Thank f*** they signed Lankinen or this season would be looking in very big trouble right now.

going into the season with silovs/patera/tolopilo as the goaltenders would have been cause for firing management imo

Soucy's had a pretty rough start to the year, but he was quite good last season so I'm willing to be patient with him. I don't think we lose against Edmonton in the playoffs if he didn't get suspended.

I mean he's a 4/5 D-man and a player like that is going to have his off games, especially if his partner is in chaos mode as well.

If a defensive D-man isn't having off games then he's more like a #2 and would be being paid triple what Soucy gets.

Right now the entire team in general is a bit wonky defensively but once everyone gets settled in things should calm down across the board.

I wonder if Sprong gets back in the line up? The team scored 4 goals in the last 2 games and has very little production on the PP. We desperately need more finishers. Sprong might not be good defensively but I don't think Bains or Aman contribute much currently either.

Does anyone wanna slide into my DMs for this one for a private GDT?

Aman had an assist last game!

I find it funny how no matter who they put with EP.. they have no chemistry with him.

Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Hoglander, Garland, DeBrusk, Heinen, Sprong, Lafferty, etc.

DeBrusk-Miller-Boeser
Joshua-Blueger-Garland
Hoglander-Suter-Sherwood
Heinen-Pettersson-Sprong

When healthy. ;)

Definitely possible, but I could definitely understand why they’d keep him out to (re)establish our identity as an in your face, defensively sound team. Bains missed a few assignments, but Tocchet clearly likes how he practices and plays. PDG would be up here if he wasn’t injured.

Power play needs to be a lot better, maybe go back to Boeser-Miller-Pettersson with Hughes-Hronek on the point. Worked well last season.

One goalie has a 1.89 GAA and 93.2 save percentage. The other has a 4.5 GAA and 82.7 save percentage.

It’s pretty clear which one should be starting right now if the team is focused on winning. Silovs has a ton of fundamentals to work on in practice right now, which is totally fine as a 23 year old goalie.

Expecting the lines to look something like this:

Debrusk-Miller-Boeser
Hoglander-Petterson-Garland
Bains-Blueger-Sherwood
Aman-Suter-Heinen

Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-Myers
Brannstrom-Deshernais

Concerned about how many minutes Hughes/Hronek are playing already, but the second pairing has been getting absolutely caved in this season and the third can only handle soft ES minutes. Bit of a hold on and pray until the deadline moment.
A two-game sample size (for each goalie) is not much to go on. It seems Tocchet may be determined to alternate goalies game-by-game, and I suspect he won't deviate from this plan, results be damned. Sort of like how he rarely (if ever) switches goalies, no matter how rough a night the starter might be having.

Except the 4 games are also a bit of a confirmation of their previous careers to date - Lankinen has been a quality NHL goalie for 4 years and Silovs never has. Lankinen has better NHL numbers over that time than Silovs has AHL numbers.

You could say 4 game sample if there were some lucky breaks or significant difference in quality of chances, but Lankinen has put on display sound fundamentals (positioning and reading the play), whereas Silovs has been all over the place.

He just needs some time to settle down and refine his fundamentals in practice. I think he’s the more talented goalie long term, but talent is useless if keep letting in soft goals due to mental lapses in tracking/concentration.
