Which of the following statements is more true?
a) the team is massively underperforming, which is why the results are what they are
b) the team was never good to begin with and it's no surprise it's not performing well
b) and mistakes were made and with no emphasis on order
1) they stripped it down completely leaving the team with no mature/experienced/"leader quality" players in 2018/2019.. mistake. taking it down to the wood is what you do to fences.
2) their draft 2015-2021 has been poor.. only 2020 has been a real success. You can go through their picks. far more misses and far more players that are average to below average
3) their trades have been at best poor... 3-4 marquee players let go for relatively poor return. Erik Karlsson aside and even he was assisted by SJ's dumb moves
4) unwise FA signings, questionable veterans that they brought it
It has actually been death by a thousand cuts. Hardly a time goes by when I am looking at hockeydb and reviewing the 15-21 drafts and not shake my head. 6 years, some 35 players taken and 5-6 are here and 2-3 are rock stars. All in a period when this team had an average finish of 7th or 8th (from the bottom) in that 6 year period.
It make zero sense that this team had to seek out ZUB in FA, trade for Chyc, acquire Hamonic, in an era when they drafted 12 D men 2015-2021.. 12 picks, 2 players made it.. possibly a 3rd if Klevin develops.
And under the heading of idiot trades.. Korchinski is Chicago's quarterback on their Power play.
The logan Brown, lassie Tompson.. and so on.. their is a price
