Even if Dorion thought he was doing the right thing in acquiring the players he did, his arrogance in winging it on a trade call by himself cost this organization a first round pick.

He deserves the heat.
He deserves worse than heat but there's no point, he can't hurt us anymore.

I rarely have have had less respect for a person than Pierre Dorion. What an unbelievably stupid, incompetent, pompous, and insecure POS.

Dude is a shooting machine. When he's set up properly he's lethal, like he was last game. Not sure we're making optimal use of him. Maybe we just don't have a good enough passer to pair with him, whether on the PP or 5vs5.
He's a poor man's Mike Hoffman....god how sad is that?

In terms of Kubalik it doesn’t really matter though. He has an expiring deal so if we can’t move him we can let him walk and it will be the same as not getting him at all in the end.

I suspect that we will be able to get something for him at the deadline when teams have struck out on their primary targets, especially if we retain making his salary next to nothing for he remainder of the season.

Shame, thought we’d get to see his shot more often.
I think Kubalik will be traded before the TDL to create cap space to sign Pinto. As you stated, we might have to retain some salary but just enough to still be able to afford Pinto as his replacement.

Problem is that as a group the Sens' centers are below average playmakers. Norris and Pinto ( when he comes) are shooters not playmakers. Stutzle is just OK. Giroux and Batherson are good playmakers with Tkachuk close behind.

Not really. Yet another LD on a team with 4 already in the NHL + Kleven in the system.

Whitecloud would be a better fit, but I'm not sure why Vegas would trade either one.
It's funny eh? RD, tough spot to fill and we need 2 of em.

Which of the following statements is more true?
a) the team is massively underperforming, which is why the results are what they are
b) the team was never good to begin with and it's no surprise it's not performing well
b) and mistakes were made and with no emphasis on order
1) they stripped it down completely leaving the team with no mature/experienced/"leader quality" players in 2018/2019.. mistake. taking it down to the wood is what you do to fences.
2) their draft 2015-2021 has been poor.. only 2020 has been a real success. You can go through their picks. far more misses and far more players that are average to below average
3) their trades have been at best poor... 3-4 marquee players let go for relatively poor return. Erik Karlsson aside and even he was assisted by SJ's dumb moves
4) unwise FA signings, questionable veterans that they brought it

It has actually been death by a thousand cuts. Hardly a time goes by when I am looking at hockeydb and reviewing the 15-21 drafts and not shake my head. 6 years, some 35 players taken and 5-6 are here and 2-3 are rock stars. All in a period when this team had an average finish of 7th or 8th (from the bottom) in that 6 year period.

It make zero sense that this team had to seek out ZUB in FA, trade for Chyc, acquire Hamonic, in an era when they drafted 12 D men 2015-2021.. 12 picks, 2 players made it.. possibly a 3rd if Klevin develops.

And under the heading of idiot trades.. Korchinski is Chicago's quarterback on their Power play.

The logan Brown, lassie Tompson.. and so on.. their is a price

I'd say just one of them. The rotation of JBD/Guenette/Hamonic should be able to hold down the 3rd pairing RD spot.

Sanderson - Zub
Chychrun - ??????
Chabot - JBD/Guenette/Hamonic

If possible I'd like us to deal Chabot/Chychrun and use some of their money to add a solid RD, but that's easier said than done.

Honestly I don't think the personnel on D are the problem so much as the complete lack of a defensive system we have had for a long time.

If we hire a coach that has one and makes our lazy forwards backcheck and play 200 foot games the guys we have on defense will look a hell of a lot better.

that is easier said than done. Players with big dollar, long term deals.

You start yelling and take a look at Edmonton and Calgary.. How many coaches have they gone through?

our hope is: a light bulb goes off in their heads and they listen and change on their own.

I think the major problem now is coaching. We need to get a coach who will make our forwards better players without the puck (how to play defence). That will require clear consistent communication of the requirements (strategy and tactics) and holding them accountable if they don't adapt to do it.

Do you think he started the exit out of the rebuild too soon?
the rebuild was flawed.. It should have cost him his job way earlier.

But Eugene wanted a yes man.
Eugene was dying and probably did not pay serious attention beyond the summer of 2021

Eugene hung on to Murray until death did them part and hung on to Dorion until death did them part.

this whole mess belongs to one person: EUGENE Melnyk.

Hiring two men. Allowing them to run the team for 16 years!!!!! long enough to do serious damage.

Mostly agree with this but I suspect the team is imploding psychologically and there may be some issues in the room.
He likely knows who he wants to move out and looking to get a vet in return to help stabilize the situation.
Maybe they also need a full-time sports psychologist. If they do add a veteran, better make sure he fills one of the gaping holes in this roster. Someone who plays the right way, is physical and a good passer. Being good in F/O circle wouldn't hurt either. Not sure any really good vet would want to come here unless we acquire via trade.

Trading Norris while he comes off a big surgery, missing a season, when his stock is lowest = DUMB.

Trade him now at we would get back nothing of value. How does that help the team?

It would really help to have a strong physical right hand defenseman. Especially one who could clear the front of the net on the PK. A Zub quality with Hamonic's toughness.
Points wouldn't matter as his pairing partner could look after the offensive side of things.

The team sucks and people are trying to find solutions.

No need to call people dumb in a brainstorm thread

Because Andlauer pays bills with real dollars.

Andlauer has to pay the following:

Stuzzle 2024/2025 6.5 M fantastic
Tkachuk 2024/2025 10.5 M... ouch
Norris 2024/2025 9.5 M... High Octane ouch
Batherson 2024/2025 5.4 M Ouch
Chabot 2024/2025 10 M.. High Octane Ouch
Chychrun 2024/2025 7 M... Ouch.. I mean ouch
Zub 2024/2025 4.8 M.. fantastic
Sanderson 2024/2025 8.05 M... fantastic
Korpisalo 2024/2025 5 M... f***ing ouch
Joseph 2024/2025 3.3 M... ouch

Can you see his issues? all the ouchs are more than AAV and the high Octane are more than AAV and a player underperforming.

On a team that will miss the playoffs this year. And so lose somewhere between 20 and 25 M.

Andlauers CFO will inform him that in 2024/2025, he may pay 5-10 M more than the CAP.
