Don’t do it guys - signed Oilers fan

His drafting is atrocious. The Oilers have had the same holes for years that never get addressed. Almost all of our impact players were brought in/ drafted by Chiarelli

Holland gets full marks for the Ekholm trade / Hyman signing but not much else

You act like we have control over this. Hes not anyone’s first choice or second really.

Hopefully if this happens Holland keeps our scouting staff in tact because Siren and the scouts have done a good job stocking the cupboard. I don’t expect this to be the case though.

The one “good” thing about holland I guess is the days of a kid skipping the AHL and going straight to the NHL may be over with.

Holland has certainly seen a lot. A lot of successes and a lot of screw ups. I think it's all useful experience if you learn your lessons. He doesn't have a good draft record, but if Tyler Wright isn't coming with him then you probably have that role delegated to a better draft specialist, perhaps Ville and/or Jarmo.

My main concern is the pro scouting record. Our pipeline is fine, it's been fine for a while, our main need is a GM who can make great pro scouting decisions. And Holland is a mess in that regard. Hyman was one of the best signings of all time, but then Jack Campbell one of the worst. Nurse, there is some question about whether McDavid forced that signing, I have a hard time believing that even Holland thought it was a good number for Nurse. Edit: I forgot to mention the Ekholm trade, which has been a huge success.

For Detroit in the 2010s I can't think of any veteran additions that they made that outperformed and became important players. Prior to that they did win one cup in the salary cap era. And Rafalski and Cleary were really smart adds at that point.

I hope we do better than Holland has done in Edmonton, but I think folks are making his performance there sound worse than it was.

When he took over it was not a good team. They had 20 pt guys in their top six like Lucic and Kassian. The Oilers are a contender now.

Holland as GM would seem just about right for a JD-led search.

If the Oilers win the Cup it's a defensible (albeit not ideal) hire. If they don't reach the finals it's absolutely indefensible.

I wonder what Holland's input (if any) on the Babcock hire was?:naughty:

Process vs Results.

The outcome of the Oilers season should not be based upon their victory.

Them being legitimate contenders does bode well for Holland. Whether they should have won a cup with the talent they have...i'd be willing to consider, for sure, but for the most part, he has at least gotten them base level competency as an organization.

I don't mind the "nash as the eventual GM" thing – by all accounts he really has the brains for it. not sure why folks blame him for the Babcock thing – that seemed to be JD driving the bus (with similar logic to the holland candidacy of getting A Big Name) with jarmo and nash towing the company line more than anything.

still, it's mystifying to me that they have, on paper, one of the most attractive GM openings in YEARS and are going to end up making a hire that will be universally panned and not seen as even a potential long-term solution.

JD should've been fired along with jarmo. letting him run this search was downright inexcusable by ownership.

Think the thing with Bergeven is that it came from mostly unreliable sources and/or just mentioning he was getting an interview.

Holland talk is coming from people at the top of the game and people saying he is a primary target. It has a lot more legs.

Between this and the Bergevin rumors, it definitely appears that JD is indeed planning an old boys club hire. In which case, f***. If this happens, time for another fan protest.

If Holland is the guy, and it seems like he is, I hope it’s just as GM and not also taking JDs role as POHO. I don’t want one guy having complete control over the whole organization with just his yes men telling him advice.

It seems Nash would stay on. Which is whatever. If he’s going to be the GM in waiting then they need to let him run Cleveland or something (sorry Chris Clark) and get him experience.

Do not let Siren and his staff go. But if they insist on moving on, do not let Holland bring back Tyler Wright

I decided long ago I wasn't going to take a single iota of anything even resembling rumors even partway seriously about this GM search until it's actually done.

I can strongly recommend this approach and suggest y'all give serious thought to adopting it yourselves.

Nah. Not for me. I enjoy the chase of news. I’d rather see the tsunami hit me rather it surprise me.

As someone else said, this is bigger and more reputable than the Bergevin rumors of a few days ago.

I'm mostly suggesting it because I'm kind of done with the wild speculative freakouts, especially since I know if none of the terrible things happen they're still going to be used to argue against personnel and moves and whatnot simply because all anybody actually remembers is the intense emotion rather than the fact that they flipped out over something imaginary.

A contender with AHL goaltending. Dallas will crush them.

yes. Way too much pitchfork raising for absolutely nothing at this point. I can't see a point in getting pissed at what "might" happen any longer.
