True, but you are saving 30 million a year in financing a new rink.
Yes, could be true also, but they will need a new one in 10-15 or so years, so it's kicking that can down the road. It's a tough scenario when a new arena is needed because of age, it's even more complicated when the poor location is more of the main driver and the window for the land to get involved and build on is a factor. Most franchises are just facing a derelict building needing replacement. The Senators need to increase revenue opportunity and secure a long term future with a limited window to do so.

Something like Calgary is simple. They either get a new arena done or they move in the next ~5 years. The City and the Flames will ultimately get it done. Ottawa can stay where they are for at least a decade even if it restricts their chances to succeed on the ice. The organization knows it and the various levels of government know it, reducing any urgency for public funding or concessions in a City without the appetite for it already.

Less the higher cost of upkeep required to maintain an older one, but no doubt building a new one isn't cheap. The current one will eventually need to be replaced but the can last a while longer where they are.

This team barely drew $25 million this year … so we get a downtown arena and ticket sales (or revenue) has to double to maintain revenue.

A downtown arena sounds wonderful but we basically need to increase our revenue in that building 3-4 x our current revenue to pay for the building and bankroll the team we all want.

We will still have traffic and cold weather … but we won’t have $25.50 tickets.

Probably because the decision makers won't be so short sighted to base their projections on last year, or the last 5 years.

Even a return to our peak revenue years basically give us league worst revenue after our building is paid for - they need to find another way to pay for the building than $20 a ticket.

Absolutely. There is work to do in Ottawa. Prices would increase substantially at Lebreton and the initial ST drive would probably be quite effective with all the excitement. Once you're down to a $20 ticket, price is practically irrelevant, it's a matter of people not being willing to spend their time.

Why did Pierre Dorion bring up Andrew Kuznemko’s name in the winter unless he knew he had an inside track?

Distraction? Incompetence? Desperation?

Outside or independent of discussions on a new building, the Senators didn't have the worst revenue in the league. See below for the results of a quick search.

One more Pierre to go!

What a disaster, again. The Melnyk daughters will happily continue running this like a circus, no doubt.

idk where to put this

Deserves it's own thread.

talk about going out with a whimper lol. I hope McGuire gives us his view on what went down this season behind the scenes.
He was just too public facing. He said he would be the face of the franchise and he was.

GMPD didn't like how present PM was.

Wow!

Always thought it was funny that McGuire came in to help with the talking to the media and I remember him saying "you'll see me often" ... we barely ever saw him and he basically never spoke in public.

Wow unexpected news, hadn’t heard a peep from or about him in months.

Wonder what’s up, look forward to hearing about it.

I always thought that this was purely a Melnyk move and GMPD always resented the hire. Now that EM is gone, out goes PM. Not a huge surprise. I wonder if he'll go back to radio? He was previously let go from TV.

Garrioch's article states that PM was behind MDZ's contract:
The signing of defenceman Michael Del Zotto as a unrestricted free agent last summer didn’t work out the way anybody expected.
The belief in hockey circles is that McGuire played a big role in that decision.

I'm curious as to who was behind the Matt Murray contract and if they're still with the organization? After all, that signing didn't work out the way anybody expected either.

Maybe Bruce can ask Dorion.
