Sweden
Gretzky and Bertuzzi obviously isn't enough. On Wendsday Canada put pressure on the IIHF and got all Swedish practises in the main arena.

Before the tournament the rules where that all teams would get a equal share of practises on game day in the game arena. Though late wednsday Canada refused to travel by buss to the reserve arena, which have no dressingrooms so players are forced to dress at on place, travel by buss a few miles with all equipment on, before they practise. So what happends? Yes all Swedish practises are moved to the reserve arena with no dressingrooms. Canada got all their practises in the main arena and also as the only team got their own dressing room which they'll keep for the rest of the tournament.

Its probably only good fuel for team Sweden. But I still think its beyond embarassing now for Canada. :biglaugh:

How is it embarassing? They got everything they wanted...

Nice to see that Canada is getting some consideration after being screwed by the IIHF for years. Remember when the NHL players were considered to be proffesionals and the Soviets were considered amateurs when their only job was to play hockey?

Team Canada is the underdog at these Olympics and should be given some consideration :D

Team Cananda is coming off like a bunch of whiners. :shakehead

Maybe your english is not so good...it's CANADA not Cananda and winners not whiners :)

This stuff happens every year, it's not the first time Canadians use tactics like this. And it won't be the last.

It happens on and off the ice, on ice Canadians are the biggest whiners and act like babies when the calls don't go their way. Rick Nash should have been thrown out of the game last WC but got away because the ref didn't have the balls to call it, simply because of Nash's nationality.

Funny thing is that the over the years Canadian media accuses Europeans for being dirty (stickwork etc) when usually the dirtiest stickwork is usually done by Canadians themselves (this never gets mentioned over there). Point in case: Canada in WC'97, Owen Nolan, Cory Cross and Keith Primeau pulled 3 of the dirtiest moves in recent WC history. No mention in Canadian papers.

If this is acurate then as a Canadian I am embarrased by it. If professional players aren't willing to go through the same inconveniences that 99% of the other amateur Olympic athletes go through then perhaps they should reconsider participating all together.

Otherwise suck it up and roll with these types of situations.

That said, Sweden has a history of complaining about Canada in one aspect or another in every international hockey tournament. Wether it's the supposed prefered reffing, the prefered treatment of the players, too rough or any other angle they can use to generate a few headlines (maybe this is why Sundin fits in so well in Toronto, apparently the Leafs have to endure the same injustices ;) ).

At any rate, I would like to see another perspective or hear soem actual rationale for the reported change in venue before judging too harshly. I hope that hockey Canada and their players are a little more sportsman like than the initial report indicated.

Sweden are just upset that Canada has beaten them in every major tournament (in a game that counts) since 94.

I'll start taking Euro complaints seriously the day the IIHF stops holding the "world championships" during the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Sweden is trying to get their big gun Alfie going. He has been miserable playing with Mats. How long can Mats carry a guy like Alfie. It deflects attention from the real problems. Naslund understands this having played in Montreal were the real big time whiners reside. It is probably were he learned this tactic.

I know it's impossible to believe but for once this was not the fault of the IIHF. ;)
You have to thank idiots like Avery Brundage and his old boys club in the IOC for that.

Add Lasak getting tripped behind the net 2 years ago to that list.

A thread whining about someone whining. I hope I'm not the only one who enjoys the irony. Oh well, I hope we can at least be considered benevolent dictators.
