The Ottawa Senators have acquired Shawn Matthias from the Florida Panthers in exchange for Mark Stone and the Senators 2014 2nd round draft pick.

"Addressing the third line centre spot was one of our top priorities, and we're happy to have been able to acquire a very good young centre in Shawn. With all the moves our divisional rivals have made over the past few years that have bolstered their depth up the middle, we felt the move was necessary in order to role four strong lines every game."

:panthers MATTHIAS TO OTTAWA, GOC TO COLORADO

The Florida Panthers have traded forward Shawn Matthias to the Ottawa Senators for forward Mark Stone and OTT 2014 2nd round pick.

"We thought it was time for us to look at the market for Matthias and we got the return we were looking for in this trade. Stone is a very good prospect and we are happy to add another 2nd round pick in the upcoming draft. We wish Matthias all the best in Ottawa."

Earlier yesterday, the Florida Panthers have traded forward Marcel Goc to the Colorado Avalanche for COL 2014 3rd round pick.

"It was no secret that we were going for a rebuild and this trade was the first move in this direction. We are happy to give Goc the chance to join the best team in the NHL so far this season."

Just about everyone is available for the right price. Elias, Schneider, Brodeur, and Larsson are the only untouchables.

Guys like Jaromir Jagr, Damien Brunner, Michael Ryder, Andy Greene, Mark Fayne, Bryce Salvador, and even Adam Henrique and Travis Zajac are available for the right price.
Anton Volchenkov is available for cheap.

Looking for young roster players, good prospects, and draft picks.

Seeking a playmaking 2nd line center or winger. All picks and most prospects available as well as possibly Chris Tanev and Zack Kassian, although in the latter's case it would need to be a very solid offer.

Claude Giroux has been traded. Sorry to all of the teams we didn't respond to. We liked this original offer the most and didn't want to potentially miss out.

With so little cap room, the Bruins are shopping Jarome Iginla. He will be dealt for a top 4 defenseman.

The Ottawa Senators are pleased to announce that the club has acquired Tomas Fleischmann, Ryan Spooner, Johnny Boychuk and Scott Mayfield in separate deals.

The first trade was completed with the Boston Bruins, with the club sending Colin Greening and Eric Gryba to the Bruins in exchange for Johnny Boychuk and Ryan Spooner.

"We needed to address our defensive issues, and we feel that Johnny brings great stability and a calming presence to the back-end. Ryan continues the influx of local talent, and we feel that we have another solid second/third line player on our hands. We wish Colin and Eric all the best with Boston."

Next, the Senators brought in forward Tomas Fleischmann from the Florida Panthers in return for defenseman Jared Cowen.

"A one-for-one swap, we felt that opportunity to add another strong top six forward to the team was too good to pass up. (Bobby) Ryan has meshed better with Turris, and now we hope that Fleischmann will compliment Spezza and Michalek on the first line. We wish Jared all the best with a fresh start in Florida."

The third and final deal was completed with the New York Islanders, with the club sending goaltender Craig Anderson to the Isles in exchange for Scott Mayfield and a conditional 2015 draft pick (NYI 3rd, becomes a 2nd if the Isles win a playoff series."

"Obviously giving up a goaltender of Craig's calibre was a very hard thing to do. However, with Robin having emerged as a very strong number one goaltender, we felt this was a move we could afford to make. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Craig for his time here in Ottawa, he is a first class person and will be missed. Scott is an intriguing defensive prospect who we feel will be able to fill a similar role to what Jared Cowen played in a few years."

The club has waived Matt Kassian as a result of the flurry of moves. If he clears, he will be assigned to Binghamton of the AHL.

In other news, we send Matt Donovan and Kevin Poulin to the AHL.
