The Ottawa Senators are pleased to announce that the club has acquired Tomas Fleischmann, Ryan Spooner, Johnny Boychuk and Scott Mayfield in separate deals.
The first trade was completed with the Boston Bruins, with the club sending Colin Greening and Eric Gryba to the Bruins in exchange for Johnny Boychuk and Ryan Spooner.
"We needed to address our defensive issues, and we feel that Johnny brings great stability and a calming presence to the back-end. Ryan continues the influx of local talent, and we feel that we have another solid second/third line player on our hands. We wish Colin and Eric all the best with Boston."
Next, the Senators brought in forward Tomas Fleischmann from the Florida Panthers in return for defenseman Jared Cowen.
"A one-for-one swap, we felt that opportunity to add another strong top six forward to the team was too good to pass up. (Bobby) Ryan has meshed better with Turris, and now we hope that Fleischmann will compliment Spezza and Michalek on the first line. We wish Jared all the best with a fresh start in Florida."
The third and final deal was completed with the New York Islanders, with the club sending goaltender Craig Anderson to the Isles in exchange for Scott Mayfield and a conditional 2015 draft pick (NYI 3rd, becomes a 2nd if the Isles win a playoff series."
"Obviously giving up a goaltender of Craig's calibre was a very hard thing to do. However, with Robin having emerged as a very strong number one goaltender, we felt this was a move we could afford to make. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Craig for his time here in Ottawa, he is a first class person and will be missed. Scott is an intriguing defensive prospect who we feel will be able to fill a similar role to what Jared Cowen played in a few years."
The club has waived Matt Kassian as a result of the flurry of moves. If he clears, he will be assigned to Binghamton of the AHL.
