The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired winger Patrick Sharp and the rights to winger Valeri Nichushkin from the Dallas Stars in exchange for goaltender Ben Bishop and defenseman Jonathan MacLeod.

"We would like to thank Ben for his time with the organization, he has been a phenomenal presence for us in goal for some time now and we wish him the best in Dallas. With the emergence of Andrei Vasilevskiy both in last years post season, and his strong play this year, we felt comfortable moving on from Ben prior to the offseason, knowing that we would not be able to afford to pay him the money he ultimately deserves. Patrick is a very good two way winger who knows what it takes to win a cup. He will both help to replace some of Stamkos' offensive production down the stretch, and give us a very good middle 6 option once Stammer returns. With regards to Nichushkin, we are very excited to have the opportunity to potentially bring him into the organization at some point. Our scouting staff was quite fond of him in his draft year, and we think that there is still ample potential left for him to hit the ceiling many believe him to have."
