Not surprising, this thread was made by one of the bigger defenders of Babcock.
Anyways, this thread is way too early.

Was Boston down 1 game, What happened?
Was Vegas down 1 game, What happened?
Was Pitt down a game, what happened?
If nothing else, it shows that losing game one can be overcome. We're comparing ourselves to recent cup winners and finalists? I applaud the optimism.
Overplaying his top players is on Dubas, not Keefe. This team is not built properly. $40 million on 4 players does not leave enough to have 4 quality lines. And I’m wondering how much having Thornton and Simmonds in the lineup, rather than Engvall and possibly Brooks, is due to Dubas and Shanahan wanting the veterans in there, even if their play doesn’t warrant it.Wondering what coaching critique you all have for Keefe who's still looking for his first playoff round win...
Some noticeable ones...
1) Over-playing his top players
2) Blending lines 2-4 for 90% of the game
3) Overusing veterans/rookies in special teams
4) Being extremely unprepared for a key player going down
What do you think?
Isn’t he 0 for 1, considering last years loss against Colombus was a play in, not playoffs?
I’ve heard the opposite. It would be nice if the NHL could make up its’ mind.According to the NHL, 24 teams made the playoffs last season. They considered the play-in round as part of the playoffs.
If that happens, then Dubas needs to be shown the door, and one of the two (Tavares -who would take on that contract???, and Matthews needs to stay) needs to be traded. There's the whole "win it for JT" thing right now.
If the leafs are still flat the rest of the playoffs and struggle to score right till the end, does Dubas keep his job? Does one of the core pieces get moved?
The NHL had to do that for statistical reasons because playoff rules were used. On the other hand, the NHL called them 'qualifiers', which by definition means the winners must have qualified for something different going forward.According to the NHL, 24 teams made the playoffs last season. They considered the play-in round as part of the playoffs.
Sure hope it goes better than the effort they put out in his return to the Island. There's the whole "win it for JT" thing right now.
They MIGHT win the series, but how much further will they be able to go if Matthews and Marner continue playing such big minutes?Holy shit boys… we lost game one. This is a great team, they will win the series and get to the semis at least…. Chill
I really like Spezza, but I don’t think he can handle playing 2nd line center. In fact, he’s much better on the wing, but no higher than 3rd line.I want to see a
Foligno - Spezza - Nylander line
I legit think that's the best offense we can get for a 2nd line with our current players.
Unload Marner for a good return. He disappears all the time when it gets physical. If that happens, then Dubas needs to be shown the door, and one of the two (Tavares -who would take on that contract???, and Matthews needs to stay) needs to be traded.

I think they're safe. Plus they'd have an excuse with Tavares.and if we lose this series, the time will be right for a new coach AND GM.
We're comparing ourselves to recent cup winners and finalists? I applaud the optimism.
I don't think you have to compare the team to a recent cup winner to point out losing a single playoff game by one goal isn't exactly a sign that the sky is falling
You're correct, you don't.
But he did.
I don't think that distracts from the overall point regardless of the teams used in the example. Game one doesn't decide the series.
This is Shannys 6th season in Toronto. If the Leafs lose this series that means 6 seasons without winning a playoff series. If the Leafs lose this series it should be a full house cleaning.
Seventh season, he was hired in April 2014. Time flies when you're round one & done. Plus he's on his second GM, no reason he should get a third.
That "rookie coach" has the 2nd highest points % in history for coaches with more than 100 games.Biggest mistake Dubas made was hiring a rookie coach. It was very cocky of him (being a rookie himself)... possibly he wanted a coach who would respect him and not push back like Babs did and maybe veteran coaches would...maybe he wanted a puppet. Doesn't matter the team looks totally unprepared for playoff hockey.
