Not going to recap the whole thing but this part stands out as well:

"We're going to try to do everything we can to make the playoffs here and I believe we can but if that doesn't happen, then what we're building here for the next couple years, just the care factor, I like what I'm seeing."

He's staying. 15.5 x 8.

Fans that think Hughes is going to NJ come across as incredibly stupid to me. This organization will throw every dollar available at Quinn and he's the captain of the team...arguably the best player in our history. Some of you think he's eyeing the beauty of Newark to playnwith his two younger brothers. It's stupid speculation.

Quinn Hughes is a Kobe Bryant level athlete in the sense that his team belongs to him, he literally IS the team. Only a few guys in the league have that. McDavid, MacKinnon, Crosby, and Ovechkin. Those type of players don’t join another team because it’s humiliating, basically an admission that they aren’t good enough to win because like I said, they literally are their current team. Look across sports, it never happens. If they’re being mistreated by management, that’s different but I don’t think that’ll happen here. #Hughes4Lyfe

It’s not stupid at all. Wouldn’t you want to play with your brothers if you were in the NHL? Weren’t our last two franchise players brothers? I could maybe see Quinn going to NJ for a couple years after winning a cup or two with Vancouver like Scott Niedermayer did, if it’s a bucket list thing he wants to do like Nazzy playing his last season in MoDo but I don’t think he’ll bolt as soon as he can.

The unwritten rule is the best player doesn’t switch teams to play with someone else, if other players want to play with him they gotta come over to his team. And Quinn is the best Hughes brother. Pecking order.

I am aware that he had cancer.

He was also a league minimum player prior to signing his big contract and is now preforming like a $900k player whilst getting paid over $3m.

Teams fall in love with their own guys and overpay to keep them.

Suter is the next guy up for us, just like Joshua was, regardless of whether he had cancer or not.
Do you think Joshua will continue to play like this next season?

I think Hughes relishes being “the” guy, and in Vancouver he is the franchise. The legacy he’d be able to create for himself if he brings a Stanley Cup to this city is something he wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else.

He’ll also have the opportunity to play with his brothers in the Olympics and league tournaments. If he does end up playing with his brothers in the NHL, I think it’ll be later in his career like the Staal brothers.

It astounds me how frequently it has to be repeated that Joshua had f***ing cancer last offseason. That he’s playing hockey half a year later, let alone in the NHL, is absurd.

10000% THIS ^^^

People advocating to trade him are pretty out to lunch. He's on a solid deal and brings an element this teams sorely needs. He was money for us last year......

Yeah he's been pretty inconsequential for most of this year.....unless your name is Mario Lemieux (I still recall him taking xx number of games off to treat his cancer and coming back and getting 5 points his first game back with little to no practice time) you are gonna have a hard time getting your legs under you after what he's been thru.

Lately you are starting to see a significant uptick in his play ......finally starting to round a bit more into form. Letting him go considering his contract and what he potentially brings would be a HUGE mistake and one I'm sure management is smart enough to avoid.

I didn't really like the contract when it was signed. Was he a product of playing on a hot line with Garland? We'll see. I definitely don't expect him to be on top of his game this year after battling cancer so no expectations there. However, I don't know that he provides contract value moving forward. Hopefully as he definitely can bring an element we're missing. As you say he has been showing a little more lately. One thing is certain that we definitely have a log jam of capable bottom 6 wingers.

Really? We definitely have differences of opinion........I thought it was a great contract and absolutely less then I expected. He would have FOR SURE gotten a decent amount more on the open market. The last few months and playoffs last season he was an impact player for us. If he's anywhere close to that level of play again he's a bargain now........

We need more guys like him with some size and a bit of skill and grit.......I feel like this has been a constant need for us over the years........he's one of the last places imo that you look to save money - he's not a guy i see them moving off of this offseason as like you said he's showing more lately and he's the exact kind of player we are always looking for

you’re right, only one top guy ever took his talents to another guy’s team. and he has never stopped being mercilessly mocked and disrespected for it.

this. the oldest one doesn’t join his little brothers unless he’s already won three cups and wants to help the little guy(s) out.

and if that means hughes isn’t a career canuck, then so be it.

seriously though, with all the “maybe the best player in canucks history” comments, i think we need to cool it a little. i mean this is absolutely fantastic and i’ve never seen anything quite like it, but we had a guy win the hart and ross trophies. and even peak henrik wasn’t as good as 2007 luongo, imo. i don’t think hughes has done anything quite in that tier... yet.

imo he’s already ahead of the best of naslund and daniel though, to name two very high end peaks. ahead of that one crazy bertuzzi run too.

That’s why Scott Niedermayer went to ANA. Rob was clearly better.

Just sign Luke Hughes this off-season.

Like Vadim said, Niedermayer waited till he was 40, that’s a much different situation.

There’s an argument to project that Hughes will be the best Canuck in history but it hasn’t happened yet so it’s just a guess even though I might agree with it. You’re right, 2007 Luongo was better. It’ll be hard for a non-goalie to top that level of impact. If/when Quinn can figure out how to control playoff games like he can in the regular season I’ll be ready to give him the title of undisputed best Canuck in history.

I think Joshua will continue to be a 15-25 point player.

I don’t think that’s worth $3m.
Prior to this year which should be considered a complete outlier his career pace was ~30pts/82GP. He's not a 15 point player. He's a 25-35 point guy with all those points coming 5-on-5. Along with what else he brings that is a player with value. $3 mil a year which is slightly below the mean salary (3.5 mil) and slightly above the median (2.5 mil). The contract is in line with the quality of player.

There's a line of players who were the "best Canuck in history", the last one being Henrik. This argument changes from generation to generation like saying the athlete of the century is Muhammed Ali. The best player to ever wear a Vancouver uniform though is unquestionably Cyclone Taylor.

Lemieux was a freak of nature. The cancer actually made him a better player.

2007 Luongo was superhuman. If not for Brodeur and Crosby, he wins the Hart and Vezina. Likely the Pearson as well.

On ESPN, Steve Levy said that Markstrom had to respect Lekkermaki's forehand because I was wondering the same thing. To me, Lekk got Markstrom to commit and that's not like him.

Levy also said Quinn has his vote for MVP. Him and PK Subban could not say enough about him the whole game. I'm guessing they were watching the Rangers game.

Hughes and Boeser looked like the West Coast Express out there. They were so dangerous that NJ had to respect them the whole game.

And what a game! Wow! Both teams fighting for every inch. Timo Mier is amazing.

I hope Demko didn't pull his groin on that stretch save.
Your profile pic is hilarious

You will never see that happen again IMO. That was the dumbest trade in sports history. If I was a Mavericks fan, I would burn all of my merchandise and never watch another game for the rest of my life.

That would be like us trading Quinn Hughes to the Oilers for Mattias Ekholm.
