Very much agreed. The amount of Canucks fans in Vancouver I talk to who only know Twitter as a forum stagger me. It’s no wonder they have so many wrong ideas. I mostly just ask their opinion and laugh internally. Whoops my arrogance is showing again lol.

I don't disagree with you, and that's also on the player not management as well. A complete lack of professionalism from professional athletes and an unexplainable fall off in the playing ability of an elite 1C has been what has caused this mess. Right now, I don't hold much ill will towards management for this messed up situation.

Now if they go and re-sign Boeser to a long-term contract this week I'll have to re-evaluate my opinion.

There is lots of blame to go around. No one should be off the hook. I think management should own their failures. With the information they had available and what they tried to do, it’s seems obvious. Miller and Petterssons fault seems obvious as well.

It seems weird to me that people are posting how well miller is now doing in NY and it doesn’t piss them off at miller. Like clearly he wasn’t trying here this entire year. f*** that guy.

Petey has been talked to death, i think his biggest fault came in the off season.

I don't really think they're going for the "anything can happen in the playoffs".

I think last year the goal was to simply compete for a playoff spot; JR said himself before the season started that a lot would have to go right for them to make the playoffs, which means he thought they were a bubble team.

Building on that, this season they would take a step and "make noise" in the playoffs without being a legit contender.

And then next season, perhaps with some help from guys on ELC's, they would push themselves into legit contender territory. This is all under the assumption that Pettersson didn't disappear, Miller didn't become a malcontent, and Demko didn't become a band-aid. And if all those things didn't happen - which was a safe assumption to make because who the hell could have predicted all of that - they'd probably be in a pretty good spot right now.

Just one of these things was able to destroy our hopes of contending. It was a insanely narrow path they decided to attempt.

So it wasn't a full rebuild, but they were building towards something, not just pushing all in.

Its INSANELY hard to do both at the same time.

Again, imagine if Petey didn't completely fall off a cliff: he would be contributing, JT would likely still be here and contributing, and because of that we'd be in a fine position. Would we be considered a top threat? No, but with Lekk and Willander coming and a decent amount of open cap space, there's no reason why we couldn't be a top threat next season.

JT was always a problem. They took the risk with him.

Every team in the NHL has Lekkerimäki / Willander level prospects.

OEL buyout will hurt us next year. Building through UFA is expensive as hell.

I think a lot of people underestimate just how much Pettersson's lack of production has killed this team. On and off the ice, the trickle down effect has been massive.

I agree that the path they chose was a narrow one that would be difficult to successfully travel. I also think it was the only one, other than scorching the earth, and no team in any league is going to go that route with the type of star players we had on our roster.

As for Lekk and Willander, I don't think that's true. They are both ~top 50 league wide prospects, so just based on numbers each team doesn't have two of them.

And then consider the positional value of Willander, and that they both fill important holes for the organization (scoring winger and top-4 RD).

It's no accident that the Canucks struggled mightily against first the Ducks and then the Kraken. Neither team is all that great, but what they do have is far superior overall team speed.

They get on you quick, pounce on any loose pucks in the neutral, and force the d-men to back in with their speed. It was much the same story in Anaheim. And with Hughes operating at what looks like 60-70 percent, the speed difference is jarring.

It says something (and not in a positive way) that when Chytil and O'Connor came in, they immediately became the Canucks fastest forwards. Team speed is a black hole that needs urgent attention this summer.

Barry Pederson registered almost a point a game a season for the first two years he was in Vancouver before injuries saddles his career. Stop coveting back Cam Neely who was a bum in Vancouver and couldn't hit the net.
We're throwing our guys under the bus like we always do. We loved Mat Cooke, Todd Bertuzzi, and even Cloutier until we traded them away. There's dozens of guys like that we've done that to.

Terrible post. Like really bad. Neely broke in as an 18 year old kid and under a couple piss poor coaches averaged 17 goals a year with 10 min of ice time per game. He was 21 when we gifted him to Beantown with a 1st. Thing is if they lost a couple more games in 86/87, and kept Neely they pick Shanahan. We have murderer's row down the right side.

To be fair, he did put up 35 points in 40 games here under a "toxic" environment where the media had painted him as the troublemaker and management deciding that Miller was the one to go. Additionally we all know Miller has his up and downs emotionally which very much effects his play. That was one of the faults with Miller. This is not a guy you want leading your team when the team is losing.
