Either that or he needs an offseason to get his **** together. What other option is there? Trade him at an all time low? That wouldn't be particularly shrewd.

Yeah but in theory if he gets worse ykh wont get anything worthwhile for him

Isnt Carter supposedly gonna be ready by Saturday
No chance. I'd say he's at least a week away still at best. Hasn't even taken part in a practice yet. Then he has to go through a practice with contact. And then like Jim Fox said, it's going to take Carter 10 or so games to get back into shape/rhythm. There's only 23 games left. I'd be happy with 3 goals from him this season.

what annoys me when i look at the standings

we wouldn't be in such a tight race with our rivals, if we lost more of our games in OT/SO instead of in regulation

that's really the only thing that is blocking us from distancing away of Calgary, Anaheim, and San Jose

they're literally better than us at losing

It's the head to head with Calgary, Anaheim, and SJ that is blocking them from distancing away from those three.

1-3 against SJ
1-1-1 against Calgary
2-2 against Anaheim
That's 4-6-1, for 9 points

SJ is 3-1
Calgary is 2-0-1
Anaheim is 2-0-2
That's 7-1-3, for 17 points

1-3-1 at home, for 3 points
Cal/Ana/SJ are 4-0-1 in LA, for 9 points

The Kings have one game left against both Calgary and Anaheim. The Calgary game is at home. That can be either a good or bad thing.

Yes, +24 goal differential and not even in a playoff spot.

It's the division record. 8-9-3, with a +1 goal differential. 3rd lowest points% within the division. Ahead of Vancouver and Arizona, and the Kings are 2-2-1 against them, and at a +1. Which includes that 6-0 win against the Coyotes.

Well that's true, but that was a one timer IIRC. A little different. I don't recall him taking a slap shot all on his own like that.

You don't see slap shots much in today's NHL. Guys are looking to get pucks to the net quickly, snap shots, wrist shots or one timers, as mentioned seem to be the preferred method.

The good old slap shot is dying off.

This exactly, and what makes this trade so great. Just goes to show you that the Ottawa fans don't know defense cause their team doesn't play it. Overpaid at this point of his career yes, washed up? Hell no.
dude its jealousy. I watched all the Sens playoffs last year. They were all going crazy for him. Now that they tossed him he sucks. Same old ****

I imagine coming to LA where he can focus on hockey instead of being in a fishbowl will help. Being in a complementary role without massive expectations will help. Being told just to go out and play will help. Being a vet will help. It's the perfect storm for Phaneuf, he can make the smart simple play and just be a physical asshole to stick up for his mates. I love it so far. He's simply looking like a guy whose contract and expectation vs. reality are being held against him, we're putting him in a role to succeed. I love hearing that he's super vocal and super positive on the bench. Probably first time in his career he's not being looked to to be a team leader and because of that his leadership is natural and shining thru.

Not a leader until he beats the crap out of Tkachuk! Nah, it would be nice but not required.
