there's players that are good and players that are good enough. you can have a couple of the latter on a winning roster but like half of vancouver's roster barely clear that bar

dermott or bear can be your 5th or 6th dman but any higher in the lineup and you're not winning many games

Even then Carolina who got a good long look at Bear chose to play de Haan and Chatfield over him and Carolina's defense is a bit better than ours.

yeah people vastly underestimate how much good the average 5th or 6th dman is around the league. severson -- a guy some fans think would be a good partner for hughes -- is the devils 5th best defender. brendan smith would be on the canucks top pairing and the devils are actively looking to upgrade on him
