Post-Game Talk: GM 47 | Canucks lose 6-2 (Boeser, Hronek) | Hockey is more fun when we win.

The scribes like IMac and Canucks Army have weighed in.......that game last night was 'rock-bottom', and not just because of the score.

Watching their captain and one of the best players in franchise history get pile-driven into the ice with no push-back? Everybody in this organization from the executive booth on down to the ice should be embarrassed.

The team really is showing Canucks fans nothing right now. It's becoming more obvious by the day that guys like Boeser, Miller and maybe even Demko won't be here much longer.

And when fans start wringing their hands about trading away these popular players--they need to reflect back on last night's sorry effort against the Oilers. It can't get any worse, whether they go or stay.

Core is cooked.

Rebuild should be a topic of conversation btwn executives in the organization.

Miller, EP, Demko, BOESER and Hughes have to go. Hughes will leave regardless

Rick has to go too

Allvin has to go as well.
I knew it wouldn't take too long in this PGT to find an absolutely ridiculous take...

The truth is that this game shows that the team just needs a little more Chaos.

Our highly paid core is underwhelming, to say the least. It’s not just the D that 90 percent here complain about. Even Hughes, who is very gifted offensively, can’t be relied on to play solid defensive coverage, mostly because his minutes are high, he skates an awful lot during those minutes, and he looks tired in coverage. Our F can’t seem to string two passes together, can’t catch passes, fully incapable of forechecking, and when they do gain possession, lose the puck very quickly and are not very good at cycling down low or one touch passes or any creativity. Our skill level is really rather bad.

The 3 moves I would make before end of season (at minimum):
  • get a MIller deal done
  • Put Demko on LTIRetired
  • Trade Boeser
In the end people can rightfully point to Demko not being at fault for the game but his stat line is self explanatory this year. He has been bad. He is not moving well. He is not tracking the puck well. Even when he is in position and square to the puck he looks awkward and is not corralling the puck. Every game that goes by the more convinced I get that he is either back way too soon because he doesn't know how to plat through the injury OR he simply will never be 100%.

He managed to recover from his surgery in 2015. That hip injury didn't have long-term consequences to his lateral ability.

He's totally finished now. His joints and hip are probably more locked. He can no longer effectively operate in the butterfly and is really delayed when going down on his knees. If I'm a forward, I will aim low or go 5 hole because he's struggling to cover those areas.

It's also not a matter of if but when he will reinjure himself.

The memory of our good defense of last year is getting increasingly distant. Allvin and co. seemed to know what they were doing, but obviously they didn't. There have been a number of fall-offs from last season and the collapse of the defense has to be regarded as one of the most glaring. Tonight, our defensemen, especially on the PK, were abused. Watching the inepitude of the defense in this game should have straightened those thinking Myers doesn't make a diferrence. But, of course, it won't.

Good

Suter - some fault on the 6th goal (whose counting?) but overall pretty good two way game. One of the middle forwards still contributing

Bad (just naming the worst)

Demko - team started game fairly well and if they had got some saves maybe would have been competitive in this game. Denko got little better as the game went on but his rebound control and positioning have been mostly awful. Looks very uncomfartable.

Desharnais - gets any pressure (or even without pressure) gives away the puck. Skating is probably as bad as there is in the League. Stumbles around in his end and can't skate backwards or laterally at anything like a NHL level. His penalties hurt the team in this game. Wish we could find out who made the decision to pick up this player. That person is an idiot.

Hronek - has added very little since return. Got off a good a shot on his goal, but he was terrible in his end. Somehow the shoulder injury has caused him not to be able to stop people going wide??? Another questionable off-season signing at this point. Hope we are not drifting towards another buy out situation but Hronek looks nothing like an 8 mill player.

Miller - sigh. Had some chances to do something but muffed them all. Lots of errant passes, again, and not in sync with line mates.

Sasson - DiGuiseppe - Karlsson - basically an AHL line. Tied up in their end for much of the game and it was something of miracle they didn't give up any goals. Karlsson skated a little better than earlier efforts but it is impossible seeing him as an NHL player. Sasson needs to head back down. The inability of any the call-ups to establish themselves as bona vide NHL material is just one more inditement of the organization.

Blueger - maybe his worse game as a Canuck. Probably the general malaise on the team has effected his play as well

Others

Boeser - Nice shot but he has showed this too infrequently. Overall, his skating remained very klunky. Good if he could begin getting more points to up his trade value. However, you fear this management may re-sign him long term to a bloated contract.

Team is beginning to look every bit as bad as during the aimless Benning years. Also any glow around Allvin has totally dimmed. (in my estimation to the point where deep fears about the trade deadline and the future are justified) The common factor is Aquaman. Some times I think this owner will never get it right.

Tank tread should be up and running.

Remember Hronek had knee surgery while he was out.

A few minor things cause I have seen people talk about it.

Soucy is at best a number four, a guy who can play in your top four, but shouldn’t be carrying a pair. But I think Juulsen broke him… like you try playing with him and come out ok.

I’d keep playing Demko… he either eventually figures it out and bounces back and you have your top 5 goalie back… or you really know what needs to be done in the offseason. He has been bad. Maybe he just needs to go back to his old style?

Only because he will leave when the contract is over. He isnt staying here on a losing and dysfunctional team.

You have to use the asset before you lose it
