Post-Game Talk: GM 47 | Canucks lose 6-2 (Boeser, Hronek) | Hockey is more fun when we win.

Another night where you'd have difficulty thinking of anyone that had a good game. Desharnais and Soucy continue to be painful and Hronek isn't too far behind right now. Forbort would be fine if he was our #6 with 5 guys ahead of him that are clearly better but that isn't even close to being the case.

Gave up a glorious scoring chance in the first like 30 seconds, knew right then how the game was going to go. Team is never ready to play and simply not engaged.

Perry mugs Hughes and the Canucks cared about as much as the refs did (none), nice to see Blueger try to do something but it wasn't enough. This is where the game goes beyond X's and O's and stats - when the team has no energy, comradery, passion, pride it doesn't matter what you have on paper.

Every time I watch a guy like Draisaitl the only thing I can think of is how incredibly far away Pettersson is from having a superstar level impact. No dynamism, no X-factor, can't elevate himself in big moments let alone his teammates.

Edit: Was pretty obvious how the reffing was going to go tonight and it played out exactly as expected. However Canucks have only themselves to blame for another shit performance.

If we can't move Miller and we can't move Petey, unfortunately that leaves the coach as the odd man out. He's out of answers and the players aren't playing for him.

The memory of our good defense of last year is getting increasingly distant. Allvin and co. seemed to know what they were doing, but obviously they didn't. There have been a number of fall-offs from last season and the collapse of the defense has to be regarded as one of the most glaring. Tonight, our defensemen, especially on the PK, were abused. Watching the inepitude of the defense in this game should have straightened those thinking Myers doesn't make a diferrence. But, of course, it won't.

Good

Suter - some fault on the 6th goal (whose counting?) but overall pretty good two way game. One of the middle forwards still contributing

Bad (just naming the worst)

Demko - team started game fairly well and if they had got some saves maybe would have been competitive in this game. Denko got little better as the game went on but his rebound control and positioning have been mostly awful. Looks very uncomfartable.

Desharnais - gets any pressure (or even without pressure) gives away the puck. Skating is probably as bad as there is in the League. Stumbles around in his end and can't skate backwards or laterally at anything like a NHL level. His penalties hurt the team in this game. Wish we could find out who made the decision to pick up this player. That person is an idiot.

Hronek - has added very little since return. Got off a good a shot on his goal, but he was terrible in his end. Somehow the shoulder injury has caused him not to be able to stop people going wide??? Another questionable off-season signing at this point. Hope we are not drifting towards another buy out situation but Hronek looks nothing like an 8 mill player.

Miller - sigh. Had some chances to do something but muffed them all. Lots of errant passes, again, and not in sync with line mates.

Sasson - DiGuiseppe - Karlsson - basically an AHL line. Tied up in their end for much of the game and it was something of miracle they didn't give up any goals. Karlsson skated a little better than earlier efforts but it is impossible seeing him as an NHL player. Sasson needs to head back down. The inability of any the call-ups to establish themselves as bona vide NHL material is just one more inditement of the organization.

Blueger - maybe his worse game as a Canuck. Probably the general malaise on the team has effected his play as well

Others

Boeser - Nice shot but he has showed this too infrequently. Overall, his skating remained very klunky. Good if he could begin getting more points to up his trade value. However, you fear this management may re-sign him long term to a bloated contract.

Team is beginning to look every bit as bad as during the aimless Benning years. Also any glow around Allvin has totally dimmed. (in my estimation to the point where deep fears about the trade deadline and the future are justified) The common factor is Aquaman. Some times I think this owner will never get it right.

Tank tread should be up and running.

Every game we lose lately i think this is the one where we bottom out and then come back with team efforts for a stretch and then the next game happens and the bad vibes just keep going.

You simply cannot win in the NHL with this poor of a defense. And you can't keep having so many slow skating and listless forwards chasing bad passing and coverages.

Hughes has hit the wall. Hronek is a disjoined mess right now. Soucy is a #5 and the rest should never play without injuries. Having just Myers out does not excuse 3 horrendous defenseman playing.

There is simply no hiding awful defenseman and there are so many other issues plaguing the rest of the team here we are.

Painful

I feel like Miller doing whatever he did to setup the chain of events deserves a lot of blame.
When i seen Dubois go and quit on his team i thought that was as bad as it gets because it's not just a team you quit on but coaches management paying customers and the very people that paid your salary bought your jerseys the kids that wanted to be like you and get you autograph

The fact some of you guys are making excuses for the rest of the team that hasn't had their names smeared all over in trade rumours and social media is really unbelievable.

I get there is some extenuating circumstances but wholly hell
JT Messier just makes everyone else miserable as a passive ability, even if he's not responsible for individual losses.

It's amazing how nearly all of the media focus has been on the forwards all year, and that was largely directed by PA/JR. They stoked those fires hard when the season started poorly.

Meanwhile their almost Benning-tier job on the defense this summer, and I don't say that lightly, is a constant minor footnote. They have successfully distracted everyone from their absolutely atrocious job on the d in summer.

3 years to fix the d. It was obviously the #1 problem the day they took over. It is still obviously by far the #1 problem. All they've done in 3 years is bring in one legitimate top 4 dman for a defense that needed a complete overhaul sans Hughes. That is not nearly good enough.

I have confidence that this group can bring in forward talent but they seem nearly as lost on how to build a defense as ol' Dimmy Jimmy and they have not moved remotely fast enough for the time frame they gave themselves when they took over.

Last year it seemed like they did a good job identifying crucial stop gaps to hold things down while they looked for another Hronek, but then they let the stop gaps go and.... brought in even bigger projects with fewer positive attributes to be stop gaps again. Meanwhile a ton of top 4 d have moved around in the last two years and many for dirt cheap.

But sure, put JT/EP in the rumour mill for 3 months and roast both of them publicly, that's the problem and solution. It can't possibly be that Myers is our 3rd best dman right now and that's the real underlying reason why the team is complete ass.

i'm not married to pettersson but at least you can see a path back for him with some roster changes, maybe some rehab and possibly a coaching change. it's a lot harder to see a way back for miller

Im not fully on tank mode...yet. But for arguments sakes Boeser, Miller and others should be bringing back plenty of picks, their cap space can be leveraged for more picks/prospects. Picks can be combined for higher picks, this management group seems to be decent at drafting...could be a quick restock.

But then we know FA wont allow that too
